Publisher's Summary

Two women close as sisters. Two lives to be lived. The world to be discovered. One man to be loved!

Under the light of a full moon, the bewitching girl dances to the beat of the tribal drums. The firelight lays shadows in the hollow at the base of her neck. The soft slope of her breasts glows golden and warm. She whirls out of her lover's arms, and the sound of the tiny beads woven into her myriad braids is like the patter of raindrops on a summer's eve. Victor Strongheart watches, his beautiful princess bride at his side. But the heart is a treacherous thing that always longs for what it cannot have.

Victor Strongheart arrives to meet the princess that by written accord, he must take as wife. Annasai is everything a man may want: stunningly beautiful, sexy, bright, willing. Strongheart could not be happier - until Annasai's beloved cousin, Setiyah, all nettles and stings, dances in the moonlight!

Potentially good story, lackluster performance

I enjoyed the story and liked that it took place in the future with humanity and technology rebuilding from being made primitive again. The primary characters left me feeling like their interests were forced. I can't tell if it is because of the story or the performance- the way this is read brought me back to kindergarten with the inflection that was used. It was one voice for women and a deeper voice for the men. I couldn't feel any sort of emotion coming from the characters. The storyline was excellent and should have elicited much more emotion than it did.

Potential Rape Trigger

I hate to do this to an author, but this was a terrible story!!!

First off, let me say that I LOVE dystopian stories, especially those set in the distant future. Unfortunately, there were several things that turned me off about his one. This was my first book by this author and I’m not sure how far in the future it takes place or what exactly destroyed “civilization”. That was kind of alluded to but i still don’t know. On to the things that really bothered me.
*Possible mild spoilers.

I love a good sexy story. This story certainly had its sexy moments, not that they were all that inventive, but still. Sadly, virtually all of them were between Victor and Ana. Victor and Setia don’t get together until, literally, the last 10 minutes of the book. (Please forgive the spelling of names-I listened to the audio version only).

I felt all that great sex between Ana and Victor was wasted page space that could have been spent on us seeing the eventual couple together.

NECESSARY SPOILER alert: the female protagonist is gang raped!!! This isn’t a trigger for me, but I do NOT choose to read romance stories that portray rape. I just don’t care for it in my romance. This may be a trigger for some so be forewarned. It’s not glossed over. We get the details of it happening to the MC up to the point that she is hit and passes out for a short time before she is rescued.

I didn’t see any warning about that or I would have skipped this one. If that doesn’t bother you I would bypass the audio and get the kindle edition. The narrator is not good and she stumbles occasionally and mispronounces some words. She is also pretty lackluster and doesn’t have much range.

I gave it 2 stars because I was able to finish it. The author generated enough intrigue to keep my attention throughout. It’s just too bad that she completely destroyed an already ruined book with that ending. OMG! 🤭 I won’t spoil that part in case someone out there still wants to read/listen.

To the author-publisher-producer: please put a tag on this and let potential readers know that rape is included.

Even outside of that, I doubt I’ll try another book by the author. This one left a bad taste in my mouth.

Interesting premise, good action & romance

Set in a future world, generations after the loss of the technology of today, tradition and tribes struggle to keep the peace. On horseback with primitive weapons (guns are outlawed), our protagonists face love and loss. The story is well written with plenty of twists and surprises even as you "think" you'll predict the ending. The only negative was the narration which sounded at times like she was reading it for the first time...

Captivating - both well written and narrated

This story was so much better than I expected from the excerpt provided. I can’t remember exactly what I expected, now that I’m on the other side, but I can tell you that I wasn’t prepared to become so emotionally attached to the characters and their journey (both literally and figuratively). This story was beautifully written with just enough detail for a clear picture of the scenes, but not so much that I got bored. I find this issue is common with books set in a different version of the world or different world entirely, and was pleasantly surprised with the balance achieved in this book.

The story itself was captivating. It had laughter, romance, trauma, tragedy, love, heartache, happiness, and sorrow. There were some scenes that had me cringing and fearful for the characters, some that had me gasping in disbelief or anger, and some that had me smiling, amused with their escapades. It was an intense whirlwind that had me eager to listen through to the end. There was no cliff hanger, though there are related books that I’m interested to hear.

The narration was awesome - no wind tunnel effects, quality editing, and no distracting mispronunciations. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Ms. Foster read me this book.
