Be prepared to spend more money

I was extremely disappointed about 10 minutes into this audio book when it's recommended to take the Strengths test online only to find the cost is $89 per person. There is no mention beforehand that there is an additional cost to make the book worthwhile. I felt bamboozled. It's a sad situation when there is such a roadblock for couples wanting to strengthen their marriage. There could have at least been a mention of the cost, or even a code given for a discount or free test for purchasers of this book!

IT COSTS $89.00 EACH FOR TEST BOOK IS BASED ON

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

ACCESS CODE TO TESTS INCLUDED

What could Jimmy Evans and Allan Kelsey have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

TO HAVE IT NARRATED BY JIMMY EVANS WOULD HAVE BEEN FABULOUS.

Would you be willing to try another one of Steven Roy Grimsley and Jason Blain Carson ’s performances?

NOT LIKELY.

Any additional comments?

THEY SHOULD EXPLAIN UP FRONT THE BOOK IS BASED ON TEST RESULTS.
THE TESTS COST AN ADDITIONAL $89.00 EACH, AND THE INFORMATION IN THE BOOK IS NON HELPFUL WITHOUT KNOWING THE TEST RESULTS.
MAYBE AUDIBLE SHOULD ADD THAT EXTRA COST INFO IN THE BOOK DESCRIPTION.

Great concepts, but useless without....

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The book is okay, but doesn't give a lot of info. To use the book you have to take a personality assessment online for $79 each. $158 for a couple right there. Sure, the book was $10, but don't think you'll get everything you need from it. The cost should be revealed in the intro or somewhere visible to a casual reader deciding to buy or not. I wouldh't have bought it had I known the additional expense.

Any additional comments?

disapointed. There should have been a code or key to do the test for free or reduced cost.

SAD YOU CAN'T GET THE FULL BENEFIT OF THIS BOOK!

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Someone willing to spend $90.00 on the tests the book refers to.

What did you like best about this story?

The stories of the people.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Anger because I bought this book to be beneficial to my upcoming marriage. Unless you buy the $90.00 test you have wasted your money!

Any additional comments?

Good book

I enjoyed this book and how it aligns the strengthsfinder results to marriage relationships, but I’m concerned it doesn’t address what most almost-failed marriages need. Most marriages that are not working well have major issues that need to be dealt with before we can start respecting each other’s strengths. Jimmy gives the example of putting golf before his wife; this is an issue he fixed before their marriage could be fixed. The book seems to make it seem like if we just look at each other’s strengths we can turn our marriage around, but what about the issues that aren’t being addressed? No matter what strengths there are, unaddressed issues will eat away at the marriage and we will attempt to save our marriage by focusing on our strengths in vain. I would have liked to have seen a little more self-reflection strategies in here based on strengths and weaknesses before addressing how we should just respect each other’s strengths. Once respect is lost, it’s hard to get it back without addressing the issues that caused it to diminish. Just saying we should respect each other’s strengths does not work when it’s hard to respect someone who has done things to lose this respect in the first place.
I did enjoy the book though. I appreciate the two viewpoints of each author in their field of expertise. It was easy to listen to and think it can be really helpful in building marriages where issues have first been addressed.
Maybe I’m wrong in my opinion, I just don’t feel very hopeful in how successful it will be. I am going to try it out though.

Thank you Alan and Jimmy

My wife and I took the strengths Finder test a few months before this book came out. We've been exploring how our strengths have a been a part of our marriage struggles and successes. This book did a great job on helping us to further understand how we can relate and understand one another better. I highly recommend this book.

Cannot Locate the Bonuses

This is a great resource, but it would be great to have the link to the strengths finder test, and the two hour video ready for download, rather than having to mine the book in its entirety to find these items. I'm on Chapter 14 right now, and I am uncertain if I inadvertently missed the links to these items, or if I should continue listening, hoping they'll show up,

Fantastic content – robotic narration

The content and practical application of this book, particularly if you are very familiar with the Clifton strengths, is superb. Despite the contact, the narration sounded like a computer was reading it. It lacked emotional engagement.

Fantastic!

Highly highly recommend! This book is so insightful. I've been married almost 12 years and this book answered questions my spouse and I still couldn't figure out about each other. The chapter on the four ways people view money was worth it by itself.
