Great story!!

The story is wonderful! Not only the plot is interesting and page-turner, full of action and danger situations, but also the love story between Alex and Liam is cute and endearing with an amazing HEA. Of course an amazing story deserves a great reading voice and Mr Amari’s is just the one for the job. Great combination!!

Okay for the moment

I loved listening to Sam Burns Rowan Harbor Cycle series, so when I saw that he’d released a new audiobook I jumped at the chance to listen to it. Sadly Straight From the Heart was a miss for me on several things. I don’t need books to be accurate or true to reality, because let’s face it most of them aren’t. But I do need to believe in them. Believe in the characters and their actions, and I can’t say that I did that with this book. Let’s start with the fact that Alex knows that his new boyfriend (and yes we are ignoring the whole insta-love here) is lying to him about some pretty serious stuff. Getting shot serious kinds of stuff. Said boyfriend, Liam, admitted to Alex that yes he was lying, yes he was going to continue lying and that yes Alex would be pissed when he found out the truth. The two haven’t know each other for more than a week and Alex is perfectly okay with this, just shrugging his shoulders and just continue on. Mean for f*s sake, he’s questioning whether or not Liam is part of the mob! Perfectly healthy relationship here…. – or not. Then there was Liam. Tasked with an undercover job to take down some gun runners in town. Add to that there was the fact that Liam admitted to not being a good liar – to one with close ties to the criminal organisation he’s tasked to take down. I mean who in their right mind puts someone that can’t act the part undercover? Added to that fact was that Liam in general came across as juvenile in his actions – despite having survived four! tours in Afghanistan. The whole investigation and suspense part was… well I don’t know what it was, but credible it was not. Suspenseful it was not, 5 year old playing make-believe – possibly. There were many small things and others not so small that added up and made this listen less than ideal for me. On the other hand, these are all subjective and might work for you if you are looking for something light but not fluffy. It’s an easy read that won’t demand anything of the reader or listener and if you know that’s what you are looking for, you should give this book a try. New to me narrator Gabriel Amari had a wide range of distinct voices and it was easy to differentiate between characters. I think he’s a narrator that many will like because he does have a talent for voice acting. My only problem, is that his voice, his pitch, didn’t work for me. I’m very sensitive to all kinds of sounds, so I am partial to the deeper voices, and Amari’s was just a notch too high for me. This is something that’s highly subjective and it not working for me should not in any way dissuade anyone else from trying this book or narrator out. I can’t say that I hated this book, because I didn’t. I just can’t say that there was anything that I liked about it either. A copy of this book was generously provided by the author in exchange for an honest review for Love Bytes.

Great start to Fun New Series

In the opening book of the Wilde Love Series, we get a look at Alex and Liam. Alex is having a bad time, kicked out of his apartment, cut off from his family and their money, dropped out of school and about to get mugged, when he meets Liam. Liam is assigned to protect him, and ends up falling for him. This book has absolutely everything! It has a little angst, some action, and of course some heat! I was initially concerned that there was too much going on in the story line, but I feel that the author did a good job of bringing it all together in such a way that made it easy to follow along and easy to get into. The characters are fun and you can't help but fall in love with Alex and Liam. The narrator, Gabriel Amari is one that is new to me. I enjoyed both voices that he did for the characters, though there were a couple of times that I felt were slightly monotone. I do not feel that it would deter me from this narrator in the future. Overall, I feel this was a good start to this series, and I look forward to see where it will go in the future.

Nice

Enjoyed this one from a new to me author and a new to me narrator! The storyline was solid and I liked the main characters. I liked the narrator but felt he was a tad stiff...I think he has a lot of potential and will seek him out in the future!

Beautiful!

This is my first book by Sam Burns but definitely won’t be my last! The story was beautiful written, with two adorable MC’s that I fell in love with. The storyline could easily lead to this being a high angst book, but the characters had depth, understanding and great communication skills which led to it being refreshingly low angst. Alex is simply adorable with his naive slightly nerdy ways and I loved watching words pop straight out of his mouth without any filters! Liam is solid and dependable and hates having to lie to Alex about his secret life. The two have great banter in their conversations and are gentle and supportive of each other. I adored every minute of this book and can’t believe I’ve not heard of this author before this book. I’m now really looking forward to devouring all their other books. I received an arc of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased review

Loved it

I received an ARC of this audio for my honest review. This is a story about Alex who decided to quit school as he didn't want to be a lawyer and take over his father's law firm and Liam who is a CPD officer who is undercover to stop guns from being brought into the city. Alex goes to a bar with friends and gets drunk when a mugger tries to take his wallet Liam comes to the rescue. Liam's boss wants him to keep an eye on Alex and this is how they fall in love. Can't wait for book 2 in this series. Gabriel did a good job narrating the story.

Cute and naive guy meets undercover cop...

I liked this book! It's a good blend of romance and action. I liked Alex a lot, so naive and sweet, but so decisive and resilient on the other. I loved Liam, questioning what's really important in his life and coming up with surprising answers. Sam Burns is a new to me author, and Gabriel Amari is a new to me narrator, and I liked both. I think this book is a promising start to the series, I will definitely read more!

Good story and ok narration

Liam comes in like a knight in shinning armor saving Alex from a mugging. Almost instantly the two fall head over heels in love with each other. Liam and Alex’s romance is sweet and silly at times. Alex is a nice boy who is way to accepting of what Liam can or can’t tell him about his life. Everyone was too nice even the “mafia boss”. For involving mobsters, illegal gun trading, and undercover cops this story was just too sweet for me. I think a part of it also had to do with the narrator’s voice. Gabriel Amari did a good job and I liked how he changed the voices for characters. But his voice was a gentle monotone that didn’t always work for me especially during the few action and emotional parts.

A Great Listen

This is the first book in The Wilde Love Series. An intriguing book with good writing. The plot was entertaining and it was steady throughout the book. I found the story and characters captivating. The characters were developed and thought out. Liam and Alex are the MC’s of this book. The narration was good though the narrators voice wasn’t to my taste he did a good job. I can recommend this book as a good read/listen. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.

An odd couple!

One has left college for his band, the other serves one of the mafia lords. Their worlds collide in an interesting way. It’s all deception and lies but at the heart of it there’s true love. Loved the innocence on Alex and the protectiveness on his “guard-boyfriend” interesting twists.

Buckle up and enjoy the ride

I've come to this via Sam Burns other series which are paranormal and myth based. This is a straight up contemporary bodyguard/undercover cop romance. It's a fun romp complete with incompetent cop, humorous banter and instalove. Suspend your disbelief and enjoy the ride.

A great listen!!

🌟🌟🌟🌟 4 stars 🔥🔥🔥 Heat Level: 3.5 🎧🎧🎧🎧 Narration: 4.5 A great listen!! A thrilling adventure, with an undercover cop and sweet and somewhat clueless musician. This was an interesting read. I enjoyed the balance between thrill and feelings and felt these characters were relatable and unique. I really liked Alex. He’s somewhat naive and innocent, yet surprisingly smart and observant. I loved that he hadn’t even thought about sex, sexuality or relationships until a (not quite) chance encounter sparks his interest. I found his “coming too” his sexuality moment wonderful done and even a bit humorous!! I loved that he’s 23 and had no clue he was gay or bi or something else. It made for a unique first time and first relationship. I loved Liam and his care and curiosity of Alex. His undercover cop side was balanced well with his caring nature and lack of ability to lie, which made for some funny moments. I liked the character development between Liam and Alex and the journey they take together. I loved their first meeting and was interested to see where they’d go and Sam doesn’t disappoint. I look forward to the other reads in this series and hope to see more of Alex and Liam in the future!! Thanks for reading!

Fun and sexy entertainment

This was a fun and sexy story with good ole boy mobsters with unexpected standards, a rich kid who walks away from the money to follow his dream, and an enforcer trailing him without knowing why. There is some violence, but it is treated somewhat lightly, mostly with a comedic flavor, rather than dark and traumatic. Alex made me laugh with his unconcerned attitude, and Liam just seemed confused about what he wanted. What better way to keep your eye on a guy than from his bed, eh? Lies, double crosses, and a few surprises kept the story interesting and moving along at a crisp pace. The narration was good, with reasonable pacing. I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook at my request have voluntarily left this honest review.

Entertaining story

Straight from the Heart was an enjoyable and entertaining way to spend an afternoon. The two main characters, Liam and Alex, are likeable and uncomplicated and the story line interesting and fun. The narrator is new to me and I found him to be a little ‘unpolished’, using very little variation in his characters so it was difficult to distinguish between them at times but he certainly didn’t distract from the story itself.

eh

I didn't find myself pulled into the story nor did I enjoy this narrator. it might have been different if I read the book rather than listened to it but this one just didn't do it for me.
