Publisher's summary

Promises are lies dressed up for the party. Secrets poison the fairest of fairy tales.

Lies stain the purest of loves. I've paid the ultimate price for my choices. The tendrils of those sins bind me to my past. The remnants of my love hold me captive.

Then he walks into my life, and makes me believe in second chances. He awakens feelings in me I know I shouldn't have. I yearn for a future without guilt. With him, I dream of a love untainted.

Regret is a far-reaching emotion. It barrels through time like a blazing comet, and its path isn't always straight. No matter what I feel, I cannot bring myself to regret the time I've spent with Cain.

But it doesn't mean I can have him. My name is Celia Lemaire and this is my story of broken promises.

Hop Aboard the Cain Train!

I absolutely LOVE this book (and series)! It can be read/listened to as a stand alone, but the series is so good that I do recommend checking out the previous books because they're amazing and because characters from those books appear in this one. It will also help you to truly appreciate the emotional journey that Cain and Celia make throughout this series.

Teddy Hamilton and Brooke Bloomingdale were perfectly cast as Cain and Celia. They give such passionate and heart wrenching performances. This is an emotional story, but listening to it play out really took it to a whole other level. I have loved Cain throughout this series for all of his hilarious jokes and banter, but also for being such a loyal and loving friend. Finally being able to get a glimpse into his heart and mind was incredible. The connection he has with Celia was so genuine and beautiful that their love (and heartbreak) were palpable. He truly is a gentle giant and it will be impossible for readers to not fall in love with this Caveman Casanova.

I cannot recommend this series enough and I hope everyone will read these books and experience the magic that is JA DeRouen! I will happily ride the Cain Train forever!

Love Celia and Cain!

Oh my gosh the audio book is even better than reading it in my opinion (I did both)! This is such a great story with so much emotion and so many beautiful words, I just couldn't stop listening to it! The narrators did a fantastic job of bringing Celia and Cane to life!

The soundtrack sets the mood perfectly

Re-Review after having to transfer account:
Every chapter starts with mention of a song title and artist that sets the tone for the entire chapter. I thoroughly enjoyed looking up and listening to each song, feeling the characters moods and mindsets and drawing me more into the story.

Excellent Series - worth a read!

Bravo!! Absolutely no spoilers!

What I loved about the series is that the author brought her nursing experience in to each story, especially this book. She addressed the different disorders and even date rape (not described or detailed) with clarity and care. She did not brush over the difficulties nor was she shy in how she discussed how different people try to deal with the disorders or date rape. My mother recently succumbed to Alzheimers and I felt strongly that the author captured the range of family dynamics and the inflicted personality swings perfectly.

Why 4 stars on the story ranking? I did feel that 45-60 minutes during the last 4 hours was highly repetitive to maximize angst and it bothered me a bit that the main character held her tongue regarding a certain incident. I know that a lack of communication is the crux of most romance novels but a therapist should know better.

This story was my favorite of the series and I fell in love with the main characters and the vast majority of supporting characters. Read the series in order and you will know why the supporting characters mattered. I could see each of these stories happening in real life.

I am hopeful that the 4th book will be written!

When it's right, you just know it!! 💞💞

And everything about this series was right!!
Celia and Cain, an epic love story and what a story.
Teddy Hamilton was so good (funny as heck) as Cain and kudos to Brooke. I've listened to her before and she's good.
This story took a while with all the surprises, twists, turns for their HEA but it was so worth it. It was like having two love stories breaking your heart.
Fantastic narration and very good!!
Great writing by JADRouen yet again.

Celia and Cain

Where to begin? Cain is the epitome of the happy-go-lucky, best friend to the end kind of guy. Celia's passion to be the voice and helping hand to the mentally ill is deep-seated in her heart. Cannes attraction to Celia grows beyond just friendship but Celia's secretive past holds her back. the frustration between these two continue to grow as well as their feelings for each other.
the story was thick with emotion, heartache and frustration.
Brooke Bloomingdale and Teddy Hamilton gave voice to these characters exceptionally well. It was so worth the listen.

If narrators were books...

Cain is great. GREAT! Celia, on the other hand, is one of the stupidest female leads I've ever read. She makes me so mad!!!!!
And Audrey, the so-called "best friend"... Ugh! I HATE HER.
So my stars are only for Cain...
And for the narrators. Both did an AMAZING job; I want Teddy Hamilton to whisper to me every night until I fall asleep ❤

No Secret this is an Amazing Love Story!!

This series just keeps getting better and better! J.A. DeRouen wrote not only an amazing, epic love story, but she also wrote about sensitive issues with so much grace, honesty and empathy. She expertly crafted a poignant and heartwarming story in past and present sequence that held me captive from beginning to end. Cain knew he wanted the smart, sexy woman at first sight. He saw a sadness in her eyes that wouldn't be easy to overcome, but when he saw the glimpses of her desire to be happy, he knew they would be epic together. My heart ached for Celia and Cain at some moments and then laughed and swooned in others. Their hard fought journey was not an easy one but so worth the ride.
Teddy Hamilton and Brooke Bloomingdale were so perfectly cast. Teddy brought the easy going, funny, loyal, sexy, Cain to life and helped to make him one of my very top favorite heros. Brooke expertly brought out all the turmoil in Celias life and the guilt she felt over wanting to be happy. I was so totally lost in their storytelling.
I also loved how this story ran simultaneously with the other stories in this series so we would get another point of view of past events. Family and friends are still very essential, helping to make this a fun, moving, and multifaceted story. We have been teased with intriguing little nuggets about one outrageous friend, Marlo, and I can't wait to find out more about her!
Between the amazing narration and Ms. DeRouen's poetic writing, this is an experience that should definitely not be missed!
