Publisher's summary

Right now, over 100 million Americans secretly feel frustrated and bored with their lives. If you've come to regard yourself as your own worst enemy; if you constantly daydream and wonder, "Is this all there is?"; if you have a tendency, when asked how you're doing, to just say "Fine," you may be one of them. If this sounds familiar, there's clearly something missing from your life. This book will help you discover what it is, and how to win it back.

Written by Mel Robbins, one of America's top relationship experts, this hands-on guide not only shows you how to put your finger on the problem, it reveals what to do about it. Mel Robbins has spent her career teaching people how to push past their self-imposed limits to get what they truly desire. She has an in-depth understanding of the psychological and social factors that repeatedly hold you back, and more importantly, a unique set of tools for getting you where you want to be. In Stop Saying You're Fine, she draws on the latest neuroscientific research, interviews with countless everyday people, and ideas she's tested in her own life to show what works and what doesn't. The key, she explains, is understanding how your own brain works against you. Because evolution has biased your mental gears against taking action, what you need are techniques to outsmart yourself. That may sound impossible, but Mel has created a remarkably effective method to help you do just that---and some of her discoveries will astonish you. By ignoring how you feel and seizing small amounts of rich possibility---a process she calls "leaning in"---you can make tiny course corrections add up to huge change. Among this book's other topics: how everything can depend on not hitting the snooze button; the science of connecting with other people; what children can teach us about getting things done; and why five seconds is the maximum time you should wait before acting on a great idea.

"Mel Robbins has the guts to tell you why your brain is your biggest problem---but only if you listen to it." (Chris Brogan, author of Trust Agent)

Liked content but not the narrator

This book has some great content, very practical. However there needs to be a clear way to get some of the templates, exercises and reference items that are talked about. Did not like the narrator. It would've been much better if the offer read her work. The narrator was too self help-y in her voice.

Joyce Bean is no Mel Robbins

This one you're better off to read yourself. Joyce Bean would be a great narrator for Anne of Green Gables, but lacks credibility in delivering material for Mel Robbins. She lacks the edginess of Mel's been there done that kick it in gear attitude. Joyce was not motivating to get one to get out there and give it a go that I always walk away with when hearing Mel do Mel.

All in all great material, but skip this audio version. Go for the print. At least you won't have to fight to overcome Joyce's calming almost nurturing voice when what you need is a swift kick in the pants to motivate you to just do it. 5.4.3.2.1...

good stuff

there's a lot of good info here. I wish it was narrated by the author though. it didn't feel the same as 5 Minute did.

Helped me start doing the things I'd put off

The book is great in its explanations of why we are stuck in our current behavior and has useful steps to use to help, with examples of others in similar situations.

I just have one complaint, and it's a big one, although it doesn't detract from the message the book has to offer. The author uses the word "prove" WAY too many times when talking about the results of psychological experiments.

Don't get me wrong, I'm overjoyed that she was well researched on the topics and included the research findings in the book. However, it's not okay—nor is it even necessary—to exaggerate research findings just to sound more conclusive. That's just spreading misinformation. Say it like it is instead, "An increase in x has been shown to be correlated with an increase in y." That doesn't mean x CAUSES y, and people don't need to be mislead that in order to understand the implications.

Incredibly Motivating

It's a little slow to get to the actual instructions, but I find that every excuse I was making was addressed before the instructions and the day-by-day. It was helpful because I was expecting those excuses to come up, and I was able to move past them and focus on how I would be able to implement the advice, rather than say how hard it would be.

It's already got me looking into another job with everything I want.

EVERYONE AND YOUR DOG NEEDS TO LISTEN TO THIS BOOK

I honestly loved this book. I loved how it makes you want to become a more successful person. Mel Robins gave me such good advice. I learned so much from her and she has motivated me to achieve my dreams, "Your brain is an excuse machine", "Freedom is responsibility", "The only obstacle getting in your way is YOU!". Loved it all and I will be applying everything she has taught me into my daily life.

Fantastic book

I love Mel Robbins and this book was no exception. However the narrator was very boring and monotone. I found myself spacing out a lot and having to go back to relisten to certain parts. Great book tho and would highly recommend!
