Publisher's summary

When a detective with a penchant for chaos gets saddled with a new partner, a case that doesn’t make sense, and some particularly determined assassins…justice feels out of reach.

Logan Blackwell has been a detective for a long time. After all, mages live for centuries. He lost his parents to the Mage Wars, lost his best friend to organized crime, and is about to lose his mind if he can’t figure out why someone is so determined to kill his mysterious new partner.

A powerful vampire robbed a bank then walked out into the sun. A werewolf broke into a jewelry store and got himself turned into a pancake. Supernaturals just don’t do that kind of thing. It’s bad press, and they’re just as likely to get arrested as killed by their own people.

But it might be easier to track down whoever is behind it all if he could go a day without finding himself back to back with Detective Swift facing down assassins who don’t care about collateral damage.

As he delves deeper into the case and his partner’s background, he discovers corruption that runs far deeper than he ever imagined. Corruption that, perhaps, he’s fated to fight.

A Funny Fantasy Buddy Cop Story

4.5 out of 5 stars

When your narrator friend specifically reaches out and says, “I have a book I think you’re going to like,” – it’s hard to argue with that. And, of course, he was right!

I really enjoyed Stolen Trinkets. It had that funny buddy cop feel with fantasy elements on top of it. It reminded me of the C.T. Phipps stories that I enjoy. It has enough story to keep it moving but enough humor to make it funny throughout. It flirted with going too far over to funny or serious a few times, but Steele and Foxe did a good job keeping it right in the middle.

Stolen Trinkets is also a shorter book, and knowing that I quickly started and finished it. I know that for a credit some people dislike the shorter story, but there’s a lot jam-packed into this one. Within the first few hours, there were already a bunch of fight scenes and lots of good quippy back and forth (along with someone’s hair color being changed, a reanimated talking head, and an unexpected Berserker).

Overall, I thought Stolen Trinkets was a blast of a book I flew through. The perfect pick-me-up read this week and one that I’m glad I had the chance to read and review.

Wow, so much fun!

Talk about fun packed into a little package. Magic and Mayhem meet in our main character Detective Logan Blackwell who gets saddle with an unwanted partner as a mystery unfolds. Assassination attempts, knock down drag out fights, necessary downtime due to the former! Great plot, doesn't let you down. Really great characters to latch onto, as well.

Great job by both narrators putting feeling into this one. Steve rocks as Logan and Deva does a fantastic job with Swift and all the other female characters. Can't wait until the next one shows up!

All of the stars!!!

I absolutely loved reading this series, and then the audio came out and I had to pick it up! Steve and Deva do an amazing job with the narration and perfectly complement each other.

Logan and Lexi are hilarious and I love their relationship, I could read/listen to their story for at least 20 more books. Please keep them coming Alex and Stephanie, you guys have written a gem of a series!

Give this one a read or listen, you won't regret it!

seems like it was written by a teenager but still

the two actors reading the story were awesome. they did really good on changing the voices for a different characters. story wise it was okay, kind of like one of those bee movies that went okay with the storyline and way too extra on the special effects. I think I might continue the series just to see what Logan and Lexie do

si-fi Dresden

because of the length the book is constantly under pressure to get ahead of the action to have time for character development....
it rarely succeeds...

other than this complaint this gives me the feeling of reading a Harry Dresden book without the character development parts...
so I'd say it's got to s of potential going forward and I look forward to the next installment...

Steve and Deva work great together, their voices compliment each other and they both got a huge range...
I look forward to hearing more from them

ROFL at the amazing dynamic of the two MC’s!!

This book hooked me right from the start. The MC is so much of a punk that to see that he has a heart and soul stronger than most in the world is pretty incredible. Even more so when you bring in the secondary MC and their dynamic is so incredible. Even though they constantly bicker they get the job done and look out for each other in every way possible. If you don’t purchase this you will be regretting it. It’s such a hilarious take on detectives protecting the world in a new and amazing way.

Worth a few hours

To be honest, it may not have been the best book I ever read, but it was definitely worth a few hours of my time. It was light reading that kept me entertained. I’ll probably pursue the series beyond this first book.

A good story.

Ever since I've learned that the "Lone Wolf" cop scenario could never work and that that dynamic would have the entire system overhauled, if not completely shut down, I've had trouble with it in books and movies. But it does add more, and probably easier drama.
That being said, I tamped my annoyance down on that and the book was really enjoyable.
This story went with the "lone wolf getting a partner they don't want" theme. And the partners have to learn to trust each other even though the new partner has really big secrets.
If you like the gumshoe detective stories in a real world setting where there is also a secret supernatural world alongside, then you are really going to enjoy this book.
5 stars to the authors and narrators.

Great start to the series

From start to finish I found the characters relatable and the story engaging. This book is a fun ride through a modern magical world, but unscrupulous gangsters and shady business people might also be vampires or shifters. Our unwilling partners must deal with the crimes that regular law enforcement can't. Thing are going to get crazy.
I always love Steve Campbell's performances and although I sometimes find duets to be jarring, I enjoyed Deva Marie Gregory's narration thoroughly.
I loved every minute. Didn't want it to end. Bring on book 2.
