Publisher's summary

What's a hardworking MagiPol agent need to do to get a little R&R?

Between Agent Söze, the treacherous Internal Affairs tyrant whose taken over my precinct, and the super illegal sorcery my partner Lienna was hiding in said precinct—which is now missing—my usual routine of busting magical criminals has fallen apart in favor of hectic damage control.

But that went out the window too when a respected Guild Master was found dead. Agent Söze is trying to cover it up, which is all the reason I need to make solving the murder my top priority.

Except now Agent Söze is trying to arrest and/or kill me. Not entirely unexpected, but both dangerous and highly irritating.

With the clock ticking on the next mysterious Guild Master murder, Lienna and I have to find a way to prove Agent Söze is behind it all. We need rock-solid evidence to bring him down, which is kind of tricky when crooked agents, shady allies, and cutthroat assassins keep complicating matters.

And if we don't get to the bottom of it fast, my next day off will be in the morgue as another corpse to be swept under the corruption rug.

So many adventures

This was the best book in the series so far, and they are all great so that is saying something. if you have read the other two Guilded Codex series' you will especially love the blending of our favorite characters. We got to see Zac/The ghost, Robyn and her lovable demon, and my favorite for this series... Darius King. I can't wait for the next one!

Not the last!!

Thank goodness this isn’t the last. After spellbound and demonized ended I was worried about this one. Clearly there’s more in store for Kit Morris & Co. 👍🏻

Back at its peak

Kit Morris is one of my many spirit animals in my spirit animal pantheon. Quickly became my favorite character in the Guild Codex Series. Book 1 was my favorite. 2 I thought had some great moments but didn't give me as much enjoyment as 1. 3 was a step up again, and here we are at 4, and Kit is at his best since book 1. Love this guy. Every witty line of dialogue is always a knew slapper - my favorite one that had me rolling was the one with the cookie. That was the best part of the book imo. 10/5.

This series gets better and better!

I'm really liking Kit and Lienna, and even if their "romance" is moving VERY slowly, I love that that is not the focus of this partnership. Instead, their growing friendship and their belief in each other, as well as their willingness to call each other out (usually her calling him out, but not always) as well as forgive each other's foibles. Bottomline--I really love their partnership and friendship without all the complicated relationship stuff getting in the way. This one takes place immediately after the novella More Than a Little Warped, and while reading novellas are not always necessary, I think it would be helpful if you read it first, so that Soze going off the rails doesn't seem so sudden. Plus, the novella overlaps the last Spellbound book, and helps explain how Kit suddenly arrived from seemingly nowhere.

I loved how the Crow and Hammer showed up in this book, and there were some hilarious scenes with not just the Spellbound folks but also Zylas and Robin. When Kit suddenly spots the hammer, I was dying. Just look for that scene.

This series started out slowly, and I wasn't so sure that I liked Kit and Lienna, but after this book, I am glad there are at least two more books planned for this series. I can't wait to read them both!

So fun!

These books are addictive and so fun. I love how each series interweaves with the other. The characters are fantastic. While they each wrap up nicely they of course leave you anticipating the next. Thank goodness she’s a fast writer and publishes often!

I Love Kit!

This is my favorite series in this grouping of stories! Kit's sarcasm and random thoughts are great! I can't wait for the next book. I was sad to think this was the last one, but saw there's another coming.

This one does have an open ending, but not a major cliffhanger. I also love this narrator! His delivery is perfect.

If you haven't listened to the other series related to this one, get on it! I love how these all weave together.

Trouble, what trouble....?

4.5 Stars 🌟

This is another series that I have just fallen in love with. Annette Marie has created a blended world that has now supported 4 or 5 different series, yet they all exist within the same universe. This is the latest one...well, now that I think about it, I'm not sure if this one or the Crystal Druid is the latest....

Lots of things happen in this book and the storyline is moved forward tremendously. We are neck deep with Lienna and Kit - Agents with the MPD - as they try to figure out exactly what Agent Soze is up to. He is OBVIOUSLY a bad guy, a REALLY bad guy - but proving that is another story.

I have really grown to adore Kit. He is such a likeable character and through him, Lienna has also been softening up, little by little. Kit is one of those characters that is inherently good, even though he has a REALLY hard time following ALL of the rules.

This is one of those books that went by so quickly that before you knew it, the narrator said, "The end" and I thought, really? It didn't even feel like any time had gone by. Those are the BEST kinds of books :)

Kit

I loved all the books. The Guild Codex was well written and narrated. The characters were all great but I think Kit was my favorite. He was funny, strong, smart and caring. Can’t wait for more.
