Publisher's summary

She sacrificed herself to save her family from poverty....

The ball was only the beginning.

It wasn't enough to kill my mate, heir to the throne. My obsessive fae brother-in-law wants the crown. And he wants me ruling by his side.

I thought I was done with romance, until a certain pompous elf reappeared in my life at the illustrious Monster Ball. A little teasing led to bruised lips and captured hearts. No one wants Jhaeros and me to be together, not even my favorite sister, Melarue. But she's a teenager just coming into her elemental powers and discovering boys - the wrong kind - the type I want to shoot arrows through.

My royal in-laws are playing a treacherous game, and my brother-in-law is determined to get what he wants. But this elf princess no longer has a master. I don't want a crown. I want freedom, family, and the love of a lifetime. But love might be the one thing that destroys us all.

Note: This audiobook includes the prequel novella, Enemies and Lovers.

Contains mature themes.

Good!

I liked that the novella from the Monster Ball anthology was included, it helped give a bit of background for the rest of rest of the story. And while, I liked the overall storyline I couldn't get into Melarue's chapters. Her consistent whining and the way she acted just really annoyed me and I usually don't mind MCs that are 17. I think I would've enjoyed the book a lot more without Melarue's POV.

Loved the prequel novella woven into the beginning

Damn what a ride. I was constantly trying to guess where this story was going and was surprised by how unpredictable it was!

I loved the prequel novella woven into the beginning. (The first 7 chapters are originally from the Monster's Ball prequel and helps set up Aerith's story....it also had a few of my favorite scenes.)

At first I just thought this was a romance between a Fae Prince and and Elf. Boy was I wrong.

The story is actually about three different females and their POVs as they maneuver between the Fae and Elven realms. Each of them have their own love interests and all three males have bits and pieces I love about each of them.

I would love to see more of Jhaeros and his dark passion he displayed at the Monster's Ball (not just his proper persona he shows to the public) ....more of Liri's seductive ways and hopefully in the next book we will get to see more of Prince Ryo... don't worry I liked Devdan too.

This book had some dark humor, adventure, action, quotable lines, a dash of steam, romance and some cheeseball sayings that had me spitting my drink laughing. I'm intrigued to see where book 2 will lead.

I listened to this book with my friend and we are immediately jumping into book 2.

So many unanswered questions.

I really wanted to like this and although I listened to the whole book, sadly, I just couldn't connect. I didn't like the prince (her brother-in-law) at all! To me he was evil and admitted he murdered his brother (her mate whom she didn't love), and kidnapped her to took her back to the fae realm and then at the very end the author had the audacity to give him a softer side?? Really!?!? I read so many reviews but I was still very disappointed. The names of the characters were weird so I can't remember them but the whole situation where he (main love interest) pretending to be in love with the queen in front of her pissed me off and to top it off he left with the queen so did they sleep together?? They never talk about it after it was revealed he collaborated with one of sisters in order to rescue her but it still was bothering me. Argh!! This is why I mostly stay away from books that deal with Fae because of how they are so into the kinky sex, multiple partners, not loyal to one another, just drama, drama and more drama! Well, I can say I gave this book a shot but lost interest. Towards the middle of the book there were several POV's that disinterested me but there is only one narrator so it was hard to separate the main girl, her sister or the human girl/slave.
