Publisher's summary

A relentless alien bounty hunter encloses a Texas town under a dome to isolate, hunt, and kill its prey in "the ultimate horror novel" (The Philadelphia Inquirer).

Ever since the copper mine closed, the West Texas desert hellholes of Inferno and Bordertown have been slowly dying. Snake River isn't the only thing that divides them. Racism, gang wars, and anti-Mexican sentiment have turned the sun-scorched flatlands into a powder keg. If anything can unite them for now, at least in awe and wonder, it's the UFO that comes soaring out of the clouds like a flaming locomotive.

In the wake of the crash, a young alien named Daufin has arrived, too. A fugitive who has taken the form of a human, she knows the terror that awaits the inhabitants of this planet - because it is looking for her.

When Stinger, the monstrous alien bounty hunter, arrives, it's with a destructive fury and a devious plan to find Daufin - by entombing the residents in an impenetrable and inescapable dome. A relentless killing machine, Stinger has an infinite capacity for death and destruction. And over the next twenty-four hours, this town is going to bleed and burn. Now, the few remaining survivors must come together to protect Daufin, themselves, and the world beyond from total annihilation.

From the New York Times best-selling and Bram Stoker Award-winning author of Swan Song, Stingerwas called "one of the best suspense novels of recent years" by the Science Fiction Chronicle.

Fun and Exciting

Hits all the right notes for SciFi, lighthearted, comical, horrifying and touching with a neat and tidy ending. Credit Worthy.

Solid sci-fi horror.

It's nothing ground- breaking but I did really enjoy it. I'll probably check out at least one more of McCammon's books.

The best of Robert McCammon

We are big fans of all Mr Mammon’s books but Stinger is now our favorite! And probably one of our top five we would recommend to friends.

wow wow wow!

wildly entertaining.

in today's world where so many novels, movies etc... are cynical this is a breath of fresh air.

it turns out that people do find redemption and can set aside their prejudices.

this novel has it all... excitement, suspense, relatable characters, warmth, lot's of humor and body horror too. it even dabbles in a bit of "high concept" science fiction.

the narrator handles the characters pretty well too. personally, I'm not a big fan of narration with voices but he does a good job without it becoming distracting.

Fantastically fun-scary,gory, beautifully narrated

I rarely write reviews, but this one has me chomping at the bit. I cannot believe I did not know about this book. It is such incredible fun for sci fi and horror fans. Small town Texas gets invaded by aliens. Need you know more? Well, if you do it should simply be this: McCammon is a gifted writer, able to convey a vast array of characters each with their own complexities. The book is quite long, but there is not a single moment that drags. From page one, I was hooked, and even though I had hours and hours to go, I was already anxious about the book ending.

Much of this has to do with the narrator--holy smokes. There are dozens of characters--children, men and women, latina and latino, old and young, human and alien. Sullivan can do it all, and in a way that gets across McCammon's wit and playfulness.

Outstanding in every way. I will be immediately checking out all of the other work by the author and narrator. Bravo.

A modern Classic

While listening to this book, I remembered why Robert R. McCammon is one of my all time favorite authors. "Stinger" was the first novel I ever read. That was back in the mid-eighties. I have been waiting for it to show up on audible for a few years. It is a great alien/monster invasion tale set in a depressed desert town. Good characters that you'll wish McCammon had wrote more about. The narrator does a good job bringing this tale to life.

Fast paced, wild ride and great storytelling

I liked the narrator's way of using accent. This book could very easily be made as a film. it very imaginative and scary.

Late ‘80s story that hasn’t aged well

I am playing catch up on some of McCammon’s earlier works, and I didn’t enjoy this one as much as some others. Some really dated “lingo” in here (if I hear the term ‘smash fox’ one more time I will scream) and the book was really all over the place with themes and social commentary. Was also nit a huge fan of this narration.

Trey Parker reads Stinger

The story is good, not McCammon’s best. But it did just finish reading The Border and that’s a damn masterpiece! The biggest problem I had is the narrator made the characters sound like South Park characters. It was hard to take serious. I kept laughing at his West Texas accents.
