Publisher's summary

Still Searching for Pipe Dreams is the second in a series following Rick Newcombe's first book, the best-selling In Search of Pipe Dreams.

Why would anyone still smoke a pipe in the 21st century when all forms of smoking are being banned around the world? Why are so many young people drawn to pipe collecting and artistic pipemaking with such intensity and passion? And why are pipe shows suddenly sold out, with waiting lists for tables? These young pipe enthusiasts are from America, Germany, Russia, Japan, China, Italy, Denmark and all over the world.

Unlike mass-marketed cigarettes, pipe smoking has a rich tradition that goes back many centuries, and the author predicts it is the only form of smoking that will last many centuries into the future. He contends that moderate pipe smoking, without inhaling, promotes relaxation and clear thinking, and it serves as an ideal antidote to stress that is much safer than the tranquilizers that are so freely dispensed today.

Unlike cigar and cigarette smokers, pipe collectors actually save their pipes. They clean and polish them and put them in racks or display cabinets. If they are broken, they have them repaired. Most pipe smokers remember when they bought each pipe in their collection, and every time they take a pipe out, it is a reminder of the past, to be enjoyed in the present, for many years into the future.

This book also is inspiring because of Rick Newcombe's enthusiasm and optimism, which shine through in every chapter and make it a fast-paced and enjoyable listen.

A new AND another dimension.

A new AND another dimension to an already passionate experience! This way of reading (hearing) the book, make it even more special! It makes it even more in depth, touchable, ... you actualy HEAR the passion that Rick has for pipes, including the small variations in passionate speaking on the actual subject from that particulary moment! For me, I understand even more of the context than by reading the book, since my mother language is Dutch. It's like a private read-out from the author himself, while smoking a peaceful pipe!

Rick and his son do an excellent job continuing to spread his passion for pipe smoking and collecting. I grew in my knowledge and love for this great hobby. Thank you Newcombe's!

Fellow Dreamer

I'm a pipe dreamer myself and now a huge Mr. Newcombe fan. Thank you for Wrinting both books and putting them in Audio form.

Ancient Serenity discovered once more.

I enjoyed the authors enthusiasm and praise for the magnificent craftsmanship that goes into creating a fine pipe that lasts for generations.

It’s too bad the fine art of pipe smoking (without inhaling) gets lumped-in with the unhealthy, addictive behaviors of the cigarette, paper, glue and who knows what else lung inhalers.

This enjoyable, stress relieving, pastime is just what the current generations could benefit from.

A Must Listen for the pipe smoker

Great information from a guy who is honest and straightforward with his pipe information. I learned a lot. I highly recommend this audio book.

Passion for pipe collecting and smoking

What made the experience of listening to Still Searching for Pipe Dreams the most enjoyable?

Having both read it in paper and listened to it, the discussions with the author at the end of each chapter really stood out as the high points for me. The book itself is highly readable. Mr. Newcombe's style is eloquent without being stuffy, yet conversational without being overly familiar. He strikes a nice balance, something that is difficult to do in such an obviously personal work.

What other book might you compare Still Searching for Pipe Dreams to and why?

Aside from the book to which this is something of a sequel, _In Search of Pipe Dreams_, there's nothing really out there like it. Other books about pipes discuss esoteric aspects of the craft or tobacco production or what have you, but this is quite different. In many respects, it's a book about life well lived as much as it is about pipe smoking. Pipe smoking is so different from other forms of tobacco consumption; its cultural component is deeply rooted in the ritual and camaraderie associated with it. The book is more about that culture than it is about pipes.

What does Rick Newcombe bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

It's always nice when authors read their own works (especially when they do it well and Mr. Newcombe definitely does well). One writes about 'hearing the voice of the author' in a non-literal sense when reading; it's quite special to actually hear the voice of the author reading his own work.

Horrible Audio

The audio for this book is really bad. It sounds like it was recorded in a bathroom. It's too bad because the content is great. Rick is a wonderful pipe writer but this book is basically unlistenable.
