Every fall, hunting season in Sorenson, Wisconsin, leads to some accidental injuries. Deputy coroner Mattie Winston just hopes the hunters don't bring any more business to her office. Ryan has furthered the development of several characters in this latest installment, as well as providing a multi-layered story. I also liked that the case was solved without an extended and detailed confession by the murderer at what appeared to be the moment of triumph - when the evidence or the hero(ine) would be rendered useless. Can't wait for the next book in the series!

Annelise Ryan has crafted a very heartwarming storyline. The characters were well crafted and Ryan allowed us to get into the hearts of the characters. I highly recommend this book/audiobook to mystery thriller fans.

I was wondering what was up with my favorite M E (medical examiner). I tracked this book down. Great story as usual. Great characters. Great narration! So why 4 stars? It just sort of felt like same old same old. But you know what? I'll still look forward to and mostly likely buy the next outing. Because I like my old friends...
