Story
Tara Westover was 17 the first time she set foot in a classroom. Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, she prepared for the end of the world by stockpiling home-canned peaches. In the summer she stewed herbs for her mother, a midwife and healer, and in the winter she salvaged in her father's junkyard. Her father forbade hospitals, so Tara never saw a doctor or nurse. Gashes and concussions, even burns from explosions, were all treated at home with herbalism. Then, lacking any formal education, Tara began to educate herself. Her quest for knowledge transformed her.

Publisher's Summary
A word-of-mouth best seller which has become one of the best-loved and most-successful books in the parenting field. In this expanded and updated edition, Steve Biddulph shares and gives practical and honest advice to parents so they can recognise the different stages of boyhood and learn how to raise happy, confident, and kind young men. Boys need to be parented in a different way from girls with their own very special psychological and physical make-up. Home, society and education have failed boys badly - and these failures lead to unhappy men who cannot fully become happy, responsible, emotionally-confident adults.
While it is essential that boys spend more time learning about manhood from their fathers, Biddulph updates his classic to include helpful information for mothers and single mothers with baby boys. This extended edition explores some important topics:
- How ADHD may be caused by stress in the first year of life
- Whether boys should start school later than girls
- Help for single mothers raising sons
- How to choose a sport that does more good than harm
- What we can do about boys and binge drinking
- What science can tell us about teenage boys and driving - and how we can keep our sons safe
Raising Boys offers parents real-life situations, thought-provoking insights, humour, and help.

Simply Amazing
Really impressed by this book. Not only did I learn about raising my son, but I learned a lot about myself and how I was raised, the issues I went through and what to do when my son and other young men I'm able to support go through the same thing. Highly recommended to all fathers of sons and mothers too.

A sensible parenting book
Where does Steve Biddulph's Raising Boys rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It is my first parenting, and first non fiction audible purchase, so I can't really rate it in that context.
Who was your favorite character and why?
This is not a story book, there are no characters!
Have you listened to any of Tony Porter’s other performances? How does this one compare?
No
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
No, this is not a story book
Any additional comments?
All these review questions are totally unsuitable for a non fiction book.

great book for men and women to turn to raise boys
this book helped me look at raising my young boys a different way! it made me look at myself and my father and the way I've been brought up, it gave moments if enlightenment as I recognised the problems young boys have growing up and the effects it had on me.
I recognised how I can take an active engaged role in upbringing of my children and all boys and men in my life.

Loved the tips and the enlightenment
My wife asked me to read this and I loved it! It helps understand a lot of mysteries and get through more tense and difficult moments in which your boy's frustration adds on to yours. Am going to be reading this again soon enough I'm sure!
