Spoiler Alert: HAS Spoilers.

I just read the series for the first time a few months ago and have read it two more times since. I liked the enthusiasm in this, but I felt Katie went into too much detail. They say there are no spoilers, but she talked about things that, had I not already read the books, would have been upset to realize I found it out ahead of time once I got into the stories. Otherwise, I liked the topics discussed.

Introduction for Harry Potter with one spoiler

This is a discussion between two Audible editors - one who loves Harry Potter and one who has always been overwhelmed by it and never really got into it. This is not actually that different to a discussion my wife and I had a few years back - me loving the books and her never having read them. It is a little precursor to the books, to know what you are in for.

It goes through Katie's experience and how it has impacted her, what she was doing during the times when the books came out and how it has been part of her life since

There are mostly no plot spoilers here, but there are world building things that might be considered spoilers. Things that may take the magic of discovery out - explaining the houses, the storing hat process, the world having race relations issues, etc.

It gives a brief synopsis of the first several chapters of book 1, up to the 11th birthday and the contact attempts.

There is one fairly major plot spoiler in here, being for book three and explaining how Hermione is studying so many classes. it is said explicitly how she does it, which to me is a big spoiler for that book.

There is a focus on the social conscience of the books - how there is a large amount of focus on race relations, inclusion, justice, etc.

It also talks about Jim Dale's narration and his work. Doesn't talk on the Stephen Fry version.

Ridiculous!

Ugh! In what world, should anyone, especially an Audible editor need convincing to read/listen to the Harry Potter series? None that I can think of! But if someone did need convincing, editor Katie would not the person that I would enlist for the task! That was the most unenthusiastic recommendation for the Harry Potter series I've ever heard! What true Harry Potter fanatic doesn't know what house they are in? Try recording this again with a truly passionate Harry Potter fan, I'm sure the results will be much more enjoyable! Also you can leave out that major spoiler that Katie drops! (eye roll)

Spoilers abound

An interesting attempt to encourage someone new to Harry Potter to investigate the series. However, it is stated over and over that it is to be spoiler free, yet I counted what I would consider to be at least 6 or 8 major spoilers for books 2 through 7 and even more if you count spoilers for later chapters in book 1. The spoilers didn't bother me personally since I probably have read and listened to the books a dozen or more times. BUT since it claims to be a spoiler free inducement to read/listen to the series they should have been more careful. Possibly the worst was an explicit mention of something in Prisoner of Azkaban that was a big surprise to me when I read the book the first time. I think it is dreadful that someone might read/listen to that book for the first time with the secret having been given away.

Fun Listen for Potter Fan

This is a fun quick listen, if you enjoy the Harry Potter series, I would recommend it, although it is not necessary.

No spoilers, my ass.

Seriously, I get that you needed something to talk about for 30 minutes, but there's quite a bit discussed that ruins so much for a first time reader.

Passable for newcomers

2.5 Stars

This is a *very* basic introduction into Harry Potter. Sadly, there's very little, if anything, that present fans of the series will find to enjoy in the listening.

The narrators at times sounded a bit stilted and lacked enthusiasm for the subject. As one was supposed to be a total newcomer to the world of Harry Potter that was alright, but I was surprised at the other who was supposedly a life long fan.

Also, despite saying that this is a spoiler free piece, there are more than a few instances where there are plot points discussed that should be considered spoilers. I shook my head at those as they kept happening.

For something celebrating the 20th anniversary of Harry, I think a lot more energy and excitement should've gone into this. It was such a letdown.

SPOILER SPOILER!!

The two people in the audio said that there will be no spoilers 2 or 3 times. But one of the ladies spilled a spoiler for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, book 3. She said that Hermione Granger, one of the characters in the books, uses an item to help her take more classes than usual. This item is very important later in the 3rd book. But other than that spoiler it was a good listen. I've already read Harry Potter and seen the movies, but I think it's a good introduction into the Harry Potter wizarding world for people who haven't read the books yet.
