Story
Thousands of crew are reported dead, including the ship’s captain. Reluctantly, the young XO, Galvin Quintos, will be taking command of the fleet's crippled dreadnaught, the USS Hamilton, while doing his best to bring fleet survivors back to Earth. To make matters worse, there’s a murderer running loose on board the ship, critically low fuel levels, and the Grish are back, in fast pursuit and ready to finish what they’d started. Only by sheer luck - and a good measure of cagey smarts - will Quintos be able to rise to the challenge.

Story
Colin MacIntyre's life as a NASA astronaut might not have been exciting, but at least it was orderly. Unfortunately, he's been tapped for greater things, and he isn't too sure he likes it. First he was kidnapped by an ancient, self-aware starship masquerading as Earth's moon. Then he was drafted as its captain to suppress a 5,000-year-old mutiny. And then he had to mobilize the planet against the attack of an eons-old ancient menace dedicated to the eradication of all intelligent life in the galaxy! It's hard to blame him for feeling a little stressed....

Publisher's Summary
Ancient alien technology. Secret histories. And squids. In space.
Max is completing a survey in the barren, frozen north of planet Grailliyn, when he makes a startling discovery. There's a high-tech pod buried beneath the ice, and inside the pod is a young woman. She speaks his language, but with a strange accent.
The two are barely past awkward introductions when they are attacked. Max and his new friend are forced to flee. The worst part? They don't even know who is trying to kill them, or why.
Now, with assassins on their tail, the duo must find a way off the planet without blowing their cover. And then, if they can do that without getting eaten by space monsters, they might just find out the truth about their world.
Starship Relic is book one of the Lost Colony Uprising Trilogy, a sci-fi space opera adventure with spaceships, alien contact, deep conspiracies, wise-cracking characters, and lots of pew-pew (space battle action).
Content rating: all ages, teen and up. Minimal language.

Well Done!
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. I liked this book. It was strange and different compared to the usual books that I read (horror, thriller, fantasy, mystery). I wanted to branch out a bit and see if I could get into sci-fi and I was not disappointed by this book. The narrator hit it out of the park and the author wrote an amazing storyline with great pacing.

great book!
loved it, the only thing I struggled a little with is how the MCs act with eachother. They seem more like young teenagers in many ways and towards one another rather than their true age. Like who says Barf? Lol! But... I just chalk it off to the culture of the society they are in and roll with it. I suppose it is possible that this is more of a young adult book. Regardless, I enjoyed it and I am eager for the next book.

Strange new world makes for interesting listening
This book is very different to the normal genre (murder mysteries) I read or listen to but I fancied a change and read the book I enjoyed. So when it came out on audible I had to give it another go and I think I enjoyed it more. Firstly can I just say it is a trilogy so if you get hooked and want to find out what happens be prepared to get the next book. Other than than it was a fun adventure in a very strange world. There was a lot of background info and history which is just setting up the story I think ready for a bigger adventure in the next book. The cast of characters was fun and like able, I especially loved Dozer the pet crab that went every where with them. Expect lots of strange monsters and life and death situations for the hero's to get out of. It was a bit slow in some parts but more than made up for it in other. In order for Max to become a man, like everybody in the world that has come before him, Max must first complete a survey. Instead of choosing a simple trip to warmer climates like his friends, he chooses to recreate the journey that took his parents lives, with one exception he will complete it for them. All he has is his mother's journal to follow, camping gear and cold weather gear and his loyal team of crabs to pull the sleigh across the ice, other than that it is just him and the cold wilderness. That is until he comes across a strange object half buried in the ice and he would have missed that if it was for the flashing bright lights. After days of struggling to free the form the hard packed ice someone comes out of no where and starts shooting at him. Taking the pod with him he embarks on an adventure he never thought possible and one that will take him over rough seas and even into outer space. All the while being hunted by a ruthless killer determined to kill him at any cost. The reason is the pod Max found wasn't empty and the girl that wakes up from a very deep slumber could contain lots of unanswered questions. Questions like what really happened to Max's parents? If only she could remember. Is her waking up from a deep sleep just luck or will it have a fairly tell ending? I liked the narrator and I think he is a big reason why I liked the audio version more than the book. I just loved the sound effects that went with it, especially Dozers chittering (not sure if that is a word but it sounds right for the noise the crab made). I was given this free review copy audiibook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
