Why sell your soul when you can rent it? Mark Vedis is an average cop. Average for a mage in the Paranormal Police Department (PPD), anyway. After years of doing the jobs nobody else wanted, his career, and life, seemed to be on hold. Then he met a foul-mouthed demon who filled him with power, turned him into a warlock, and dumped him into a world of wealth and debauchery that was disturbing at best. When an enemy strikes who is far beyond what the cops in the PPD have ever seen, Mark is forced to travel to Thailand and face threats from all sides.

In a world full of super powers, Felix has a pretty crappy one. He has the ability to modify any item he owns. To upgrade anything. Sounds great on paper. Almost like a video game. Except that the amount of power it takes to actually change, modify, or upgrade anything worthwhile is beyond his abilities. With that in mind, Felix settled into a normal life. A normal job. His entire world changes when the city he lives in is taken over by a super villain. Becoming a country of one city. A city state.

Low-level entertainment lawyer Nick Carter thinks it's a prank, not an alien encounter, when a redheaded mullah and a curvaceous nun show up at his office. But Frampton and Carly are highly advanced (if bumbling) extraterrestrials. And boy, do they have news. The entire cosmos, they tell him, has been hopelessly hooked on humanity's music ever since "Year Zero" (1977 to us), when American pop songs first reached alien ears. This addiction has driven a vast intergalactic society to commit the biggest copyright violation since the Big Bang.

Publisher's Summary
A hilarious mystery from the Intergalactic Investigation Bureau!
Two robotic deaths and a grouping of terrorist attacks have just happened on the biggest incorporated entity in the galactic empire.
As large as a massive city, the corporate flotilla crawls through space ever-searching for more customers to add to its bottom line. But with the recent turn of events, the very existence of the station and all of its inhabitants are at risk of losing everything.
The #1 suspect? A new robotic religiosity that calls itself Starliner.
Prime Adam Dresker and the crew of the IIB - the investigative branch that handles all major security concerns - must figure out who is behind the attacks and stop them before it's too late.
Many questions arise for Dresker and his crew as they fall into their investigation. Who done it? Why are they doing it? Are they going to keep doing it? Is the president of the CCOP actually happy that they're doing it?
And the most pressing question of them all: Have robots seriously found religion?

Hints of Douglas Adams
Star liner is a fun little book set on a well developed multi-species world ship. Each race is nicely detailed and the narrator does an excellent job of giving each one a unique flavor with accents and speech habits. The characters are well developed and the story is quite well written. Throughout you almost feel that Douglas Adams was looking over the authors shoulders nudging then a bit. In the end, the book was just plain fun.
The audiobook was provided to me by the author in exchange for an honest review.

I am not a huge sci-fi fan, but I love John P Logsdon books, and Ononkin series specifically. This story is something like what Ononkin would be like in space. Jus Seargents narraration is wonderful and kept my interest. I hope that there will be more books set in this world soon.

You almost destroyed the world for a WHAT???
This is another little gem I found looking for sci-fi comedy. I'll definitely read it again.
"Starliner" drew me in practically from the first word. It has that sumpin' sumpin'.
Everyone lives in this unimaginably huge space station. There are all kinds of beings, at least one disgusting, and the authors spared no detail. Seriously, they had to have had some serious brews to come up with that one.
Many, many years ago, robots were only tools. And poorly used ones at that. They revolted, became their own species called mechs, and now they've found God!
This book is well written, funny, and clean. I love the cast of characters. My favorites are (I can't remember names, sorry ), the mech who owns the bar, the inspeçtor's 2nd in command, and the pleasure mech. But all the characters are delightful.
I love the narrator. This is hard to explain, really. I am cognizant of the fact that he is narrating, but most of the time it seems like he's not there. I would definitely listen to him again

Made my commute so enjoyable
If you could sum up Starliner in three words, what would they be?
Witty. Fun. Addictive
What was one of the most memorable moments of Starliner?
Loved the bar scenes. The beepbots are so expressive despite their limitede communication abilities.
Have you listened to any of Jus Sargeant’s other performances? How does this one compare?
This was a first but I really liked the way Jus read this book - I was never bored by the tone (something I find can happen with some narrators. The characters were also brought to life. In particular Drexler - he seemed really real. I'll definitely look out for more by Jus Sargeant.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
This was a comic sci fi book - there aren't really 'moving scenes' in it.
Any additional comments?
Really enjoyed this. I listen to audiobooks in the car on my daily commute and this broke up the journey really well. It was light and witty - perfect.

Bought it for the narrator-stayed for the story
Would you consider the audio edition of Starliner to be better than the print version?
Definitely! That narrator, Jus Sargeant, is a genius!
Who was your favorite character and why?
That cowboy/young male duo usually cracked me up.
What does Jus Sargeant bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
He gives soul to this book! I'd have never read it if he hadn't been narrating it! He is amazing!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, it's short, funny and easy to follow though, so it was never hard to get back in there.
Any additional comments?
I don't usually like space, aliens, crimes or mystery. Somehow this all made it worked together and I liked it all-because it's funny!

Rubbish
This story if you can call it that is totally without any substance. The narration leaves a lot to be desired. To liken this to Terry Pratchett is beyond belief.
