Publisher's Summary

Stars of the hit TV show, We the People, Sam Newman and Val Saunders have been burning up the small screen. Their chemistry is the topic of water cooler conversations everywhere. But their talent and success isn't all that has people buzzing. Rumors of an off-screen love affair have begun to circulate. The married man and the young ingénue.

But they're just friends.

Good friends.

Friends that harbor feelings that neither are ready to acknowledge? Perhaps.

The lines between fantasy and reality have blurred...a bit...but no lines have been crossed. Not really. So let the rumors fly. Accusations are easy enough to deny, since they're only friends.

Calling it...

I really wanted to like this book, especially since they took it to high levels of steam, but the MCs were kinda immature, it was so hard to route for them. They took little responsibility for their actions despite their obstacles and while I was HIGHLY entertained, I side eyed their dynamic every other chapter. Even though I liked their love scenes, dare I say their relationship was more exciting when it was mere speculation.

He was 17 yrs older than her and I lowkey felt the heroine was in love with "potential".

I didn't like how they painted the wife as this horrible, edgy looking old wench who paled in comparison to a clean cut early 20s perfect bod ingenue. OF COURSE SHE SEEMS PERFECT, SHE AIN'T DEALT WITH NON-MF FACTORS YET.

I'd read from this author again but it missed a lot of marks, as well as break a ton of romance trope rules. It's more like a 2.5 but I'm not feeling generous today.

Boring and a Slight Ripoff of Another TV Show

I listened to book 1 and 2 before reviewing. The introduction to the characters were good. As I was listening, scenes from Scandal kept floating in my head. Had the characters had the same names, based in Washington and the female actor a fixer and the male actor the POTUS, and the handsome bag boy secret agent, then you can imagine this book. Not much originality went into creating this story since it was already written by another. Change the names, tweak the situations, and give a shout out to the creator of the actual show, and that should be enough to avoid copyright infringements.

However, the story itself was boring. The characters were boring. Female is fresh, beautiful, exciting, and young. Male is washed up but still has some cereal in the box. He hasn't lost his looks but a drunk wife is bringing him down and he just doesn't have the heart to get rid of her useless behind. Of course he feels guilty for doing anything since the wife is older and made his career.

Then he gets the role of a lifetime on Scandal (oops not that show). Anyhow, he meets the woman of his dreams. She is what dreams are made of, but totally off limits since he is married to Milly (oops not her). He is also jealous of another actor on the show who is not married, very handsome and interested in Olivia (oops not her). Jake (oops not him) could be an actual threat to the woman he knows he can't have.

I guess if you're actor, then dry humping, and passionately kissing your co-star is not consider infidelity until it actually happens. The male lead is so lonely and misunderstood why he is trapped in a marriage he can't resolve. The heroine takes pity on him of course. Then the action takes off when the wife suddenly realizes what she might lose.

Anyhow, both listens were quiet uneventful, unlike the television show.
