Publisher's summary

An ambitious exec and a reluctant rock star sizzle in this workplace romantic comedy about music’s redemptive power, hogging the bed, and finding love.

Bright and ambitious Marin Collins sees her new internship with a prestigious PR firm as a stepping stone to a much-needed permanent position. But her plans for career success are derailed when she’s assigned to go on the road with rock band Kings Quarters, hailed by Rolling Stone as the next big thing. To gain full-time employment, she’ll need to stick to her “no workplace romance” policy and resist the sexy and nerdy rock star on the tour bus.

Enter Brad Osterhauser, the reluctant guitarist who would rather be coding computer games than penning Grammy-nominated songs. While grateful for the band’s success, he’s trapped on tour out of loyalty to the brother and bandmate who helped him escape a depressing home life. His outlook about the current tour improves immensely when he’s smitten by the smart and stunning PR executive who joins the tour.

Traveling by bus, city to city, with a group of practical joking bandmates and a greedy manager, Marin and Brad forge a friendship and forbidden romance over a shared love of Seinfeld episodes, stolen moments, and Red Vines.

Will Marin and Brad’s secret passions destroy both their careers, or take desire to the ultimate encore?

If you love a slow burn romance with laugh-out-loud moments, forced proximity, and sizzling chemistry, scroll up now to buy the book.

I loved it!!💜

This was an excellent story. I enjoyed touring with the band!! It was funny and well written. The characters were so much fun and the practical jokes and comradely made me love them all the more. I had tears of joy as well as sadness. This book has it all.
The narration was absolutely perfect!! They really brought these characters to life.

Slow Burn with substance!!

This is my first book by Lisa Becker and I loved it 🥰Marin and Brad truly complemented one another. Both wanted the other to reach their full potential and pursue their true goals and ambitions!! Marin was not only intelligent with an astounding work ethic but she was loyal, strong, compassionate and loving! Brad was just as intelligent, loyal and caring but also willing to right his wrongs and apologize when warranted! I really enjoyed the fact that their relationship developed as friends first and not just because he was a hot rockstar genius wanted by the masses😆 Their relationship had a little bit of everything, such as humor, deceit, loyalty, great friendships, sizzling chemistry and forgiveness! My only complaint is that the band manager didn’t get quite the come uppance he truly deserved!! Erin Mallon and Sebastian York’s performances were stellar as always! I can’t wait to listen to more from this author 👏🏾

5 stars...so, so good!

I read Starfish last summer and loved it so I expected no less from the audio book, especially since it's narrated by Erin Mallon and Sebastion York. I love everything I've heard from them and all three of the books I've read by Lisa Becker so this was basically a guaranteed winner. I've raved about the next level of connection with a story when you experience it through audio and this novel was no exception.

Marin is a recent graduate who's interning for a prominent PR firm. She's eagerly anticipating an assignment in Seattle, but is instead shocked and disappointed to learn she'll be joining rock band, Kings Quarters, on their four-month-long summer tour. Tour buses, hotel life, and practical joking band members aren't exactly what she had in mind for her first foray into the world of PR. The band's guitarist Brad, however, is someone she'd like to get to know better -- except she knows she shouldn't feel that way since she's working for his band. Brad isn't your typical rock star hero which is a fun twist on his character. He's grown tired of the rock star life and would like to be free to pursue his passion for computer and video game programming -- hello sexy AND smart book boyfriend!

Listening to Brad and Marin discover their feelings for each other was such a delight. If you enjoy the conflict of a couple trying not to be a couple, you will love these two characters -- and even more so because of the stellar narration. When that tension is released it is sooooo good and definitely worth the wait! 🔥👏💓 If you're experiencing a global pandemic or anything, this audio book is an excellent escape (just sayin'...)

Absolutely loved it

This book was so much fun to listen to and I absolutely loved the characters. I usually don’t gravitate towards the rockstar romance genre but I had seen such good reviews for this one so I thought I would give it a try. If you’re on the fence about it I highly recommend it.

Perfect title!!

What an awesome audiobook!! Starfish by Lisa Becker, narrated by Erin Mallon and Sebastian York is definitely a 5-star listen all around! This is the second book I've listened to by Lisa Becker; I really love her writing. She does an excellent job with character development. I was surprised (and thoroughly impressed) at how quickly I felt a connection with the characters...even the secondary characters. Everything about them seemed so real and true that I'm convinced they are not fictional. I felt like I was right there next to them the entire story, watching everything unfold before my eyes. Needless to say, there was never a dull moment. The fast-moving plot was both sexy and funny, and I stayed 100% engaged from start to finish.

Told in alternating points of view, the performances by Erin Mallon and Sebastian York were outstanding! I love listening to two different narrators, especially when I'm able to hear both sides of the story. They were easy to follow and kept things exciting. I pretty much listened to Starfish non-stop because each time a chapter ended, I'd hear the other one announce the next chapter, and I knew I had to stick around to hear things from their point of view. I don't know which one I loved listening to more...they both were the perfect choice for Starfish. Bravo!

If you love romantic comedies and stories about love, life, and chasing your dreams, Starfish by Lisa Becker, narrated by Erin Mallon and Sebastian York is the one for you! It's entertaining and sexy, yet suspenseful and heart-warming all at the same time. The characters are memorable and relatable, and while you may find yourself blushing one moment, you'll be laughing out loud the next. This 5-star audiobook really has it all! I'm confident you're going to love it!

Thank you for reading my review. I hope it was helpful. Happy listening! :-)

Wow!

I so enjoyed this fun loving story! I was so deeply captivated by Brad and Marin’s journey! This wasn’t your typical rockstar romance and I actually loved that! Starfish is so enjoyable from beginning to end! I really felt the connection between these two characters. This was my first Lisa Becker book and it will most definitely not be my last! Her writing is superb! And of course the narration by Erin Mallon and Sebastian York was amazing as always! I highly recommend this book and enjoy this sweet love story!

For fans of Christina Lauren

After getting her MBA, Marin takes an internship at a prestigious PR firm, assuming that she’ll be working for one of their trendy tech startup clients. Instead she finds herself assigned to tour with the rock band King’s Quarters (dream job, right?) and she is absolutely determined to keep things professional even though she’s spending her summer on the band’s tour bus.⁣

I loved the buildup to Marin and Brad’s relationship and the slow burn was worth it! 🔥 I was annoyed on Marin’s hang up about turning out like her mother, but did understand that she wanted to keep things strictly professional with the band. Starfish was such a fun, refreshing read and totally reminded me of a CLo book. I’d definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a rockstar romance. I can’t wait to see what Lisa writes next for the guys of King’s Quarters.⁣

Narration; Sebastian York and Erin Mallon narrate, and I can’t believe I haven’t listened to an audiobook narrated by of them before. Both are narrators I’ve listened to multiple times and would recommend.

Thanks to the author for providing me an audio copy for review.⁣

Rock Star Romance

I received a complimentary audiobook of this title from the author.

Marin is an intern for a PR firm and is anticipating moving to Seattle to nab a position that she thinks she has a perfect shot for. She's pretty bummed to find out that she has to go on tour with a band - Kings Quarters - instead.

This is where Marin meets Brad, guitarist of the rock band. Brad's not exactly happy where he is with the band. He's gotten tired of the band scene and would rather work on developing video games. But having Marin on the bus takes away some of his tension. The two of them form a bond almost immediately and thus their friendship starts.

I really enjoyed the fact that Marin and Brad let their feelings grow. Marin was very hesitant to go any further than friendship with Brad because she takes her job very seriously. She doesn't want to get fired for crossing the line with a potential client even though her feelings towards Brad are starting to grow more than friendship.

I really loved the relationship between Brad, his brother Craig and the other band mates. Brad wants nothing more than to be there for his brother, but at the same time he has his own ambitions and dreams too. I think a lot of us feel this way sometimes. We get "stuck" even though we think that we're in it, whatever "it" may be, for the right reasons. I loved how being with Marin changed Brad's perspective on things.

Audiobook:

Story: 3.5
Narration: 4.5
Overall: 4

I enjoyed listening to the audiobook of Starfish. The audiobook was narrated by Sebastian York and Erin Mallon. Sebastian York and Erin Mallon portrayed Marin and Brad perfectly. I feel like whenever I listen to Erin Mallon she always has a great listening voice and will portray different emotions perfectly. Sebastian York also does a wonderful job and I had no problem picking out different characters while I was listening to him.

I do feel that the ending was a bit rushed and parts of the book lagged for me a bit, but overall I enjoyed this slow burn romance.

p.s. Loved how the name of the title - Starfish - was incorporated into the book :)
