Publisher's summary

Mase Colton has worked for years in the harsh unforgiving environment of the Moon building Tycho City. Now, with the completion of the Farside observatory complex, a deadly danger to the Moon and Earth has been discovered. A neutron star is about to enter the solar system.

Can Mase Colton and his counterpart, Steve Larson on the Star One space station, find a way to preserve a small segment of humanity against this deadly danger? It's a race against time and the politicians on Earth who refuse to believe in the approaching neutron star as they struggle to save the human race.

On Earth, fighting breaks out as the neutron star nears and chaos spreads across the globe. Lieutenant Trace Lewis will do whatever it takes to ensure his family survives the calamity. However, even his marine training hasn't prepared him for what's coming.

Writing a good story is difficult

With that in mind, I can't help but mention some problems with this story. It seems like nothing much unexpected happens, and this is rather a dry narration or a history more than a story.

The only character with any personality has an obsession with steak and that's literally the only quirk any of these characters have.

The author reuses and restates things the characters were thinking twice, almost always, and in exactly the same way. To the point where I literally was yelling at my stereo speakers saying 'I heard you the first time!'

The narrator could use some improvement in pacing for the story, emphasizing the situations in a voice that reflects the characters heightened emotions or tensions, maybe retake spots that were not well enunciated. He did okay over all, however. This wasn't a character driven story I reckon. Maybe it is just meant to set up the sequels? Things could get better.

Maybe instead of jumping forward in time with small situation updates to move the story, some time could be spent developing characters, introducing fewer important ones, giving them personality.

I must say that I kinda wish I'd gotten a different book. I hate being so harsh, but there it is. Maybe try the next one in the series.

Where's the meat.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I would spend a little more work on the time line. Sometimes a few hours would pass, and the next thing you know a month, six months, or five years have passed. I spent too much time trying to figure out how much time had passed.

Would you ever listen to anything by Raymond L. Weil again?

Maybe

Have you listened to any of Nick J. Russo’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but I would listen to another performance before I make a final decision on future performances.

Did Star One inspire you to do anything?

Yes, choose my stories wisely.

Any additional comments?

Overall I thought it was a ok story. I liked the main idea. But,It was lacking a lot of character development. The main evil character was talked about, however, you never really know who he is. I wanted to hear from that character. I wanted know he was more than a name. He did something terrible in the story, but you never what he did that was the final straw.. It's a secret between the two other characters in the story.
