Publisher's Summary

In this sparkling romantic comedy, a young journalist tampers with her magazine's horoscopes to win her friend's heart - and sets in motion an unpredictable and often hilarious ripple effect....

Sometimes destiny needs a nudge in the right direction....

When Justine Carmichael (Sagittarius, aspiring journalist and sceptic) bumps into her old friend Nick Jordan (Aquarius, struggling actor and true believer), it could be by chance. Or perhaps it's written in the stars.

Justine works at the Alexandria Park Star - and Nick, she now learns, relies on the magazine's astrology column to guide him in life.

Looking for a way to get Nick's attention, Justine has the idea of making a few small alterations to 'Aquarius' before it goes to print.

It's only a horoscope, after all. What harm could changing it do?

Charting the many unforeseen ripple effects of Justine's astrological meddling - both for herself and others - Star-Crossed is the funny, super-smart feel-good listen of the year!

Well. I actually enjoyed the narration.

Lovely easy book to listen too. And if you know Melissa George’s voice, you know that this narration is authentically her. There is no contrived huskiness.
Calming and lovely. No scathing review from me! ;)

A Modern Austen

I couldn't recommend this book highly enough. It is a lovely, gentle read, that treats it's characters with warmth and humour - much like an Austen.

Nice story, narration needs work

It was a nice story drawing together threads from different walks of life. For the most part the narration is very good, however there were quite a few times where the Narrator totally mispronounced rather common words (like "duco", "illustrative", "carotid", "demurred", "chic", "enumerate", "emeritus", "bougainvillea" or "tut shite" instead of "shut tight"). This had a jarring effect as I had to stop and work out what she was trying to say as the story continued. Mis-pronunciations are particularly annoying when the main character is an editor who is perpetually correcting others... oh the irony! If you are a professional Narrator and you come across a word you are unsure how to pronounce then look it up. Even Google has a tool which demonstrates both British and American pronunciations. Having said that it is unfair to dump all the criticism at the Narrator's feet. The editors should have picked this up before allowing the book to be published. Ultimately, it is the editor's failure that spoils this audiobook.

Melissa George's narration was terrible

I gave it a 2 Stars because Melissa's narration was whispered the WHOLE time. I couldn't get far through the book because I couldn't understand a word she was saying so didn't know what was going on in the story. Whoever produced the book narration aught to be ashamed of themselves.

The worst narrator I have ever heard.

The absolute worst narrator I have ever heard. I am completely addicted to audiobooks but this is a huge struggle. Can't get over the narrators absolutely shocking interpretation and it's ruining the book for me. Sorry, Minnie Darke, it's probably an okay book but it's going to be a DNF for me because I can't live with the gratingly whispy voice for another 11 hours.

Loving the book, not the narrator...

Currently pushing through this one, enjoying the story but find the performance exhausting and almost frustrating. Narrator is too busy perfecting her whispy ‘I’m better than everyone else’ tone. Occasional hints in a down to earth tone give glimpses of what could have been. Will push through as the light and whimsical story line is just what I was after right now. Or may swap to the paperback.

Returned this book after the 2nd chapter

Every minute of the 20 minutes I got into this book was an uphill battle, just trying to understand what the narrator was saying. Beyond the whispering tones, I found the volume would suddenly jump back up from beyond incoherent and I would get deafened. I'm extremely grateful that Audible have such a wonderful returns policy! Perhaps this makes a better hard copy read than it does listen.

Terrible narration

Don't normally write reviews but had to this time. The narration of this book was terrible. An actress that can mispronounce this many common words should not be doing this kind of work. The book itself was fine. Nice and easy - a "no brainer". But was let down in the worst way. Had to give performance one star - otherwise I couldn't continue. Didn't want to give any :-(

Politically correct left wing poorly narrated

This book was boring with its left wing point of view and absolutely obvious attempt to include all the minorities. The obligatory gay couples, Russian, Japanese, female IT person.
Ugh it was so predictable.

The narration was substandard with many words mispronounced by the narrator and the volume of some parts had me turning it up so I could hear, then the very next moment it was blaringly loud.

I would not listen to another audiobook done by Melissa George. She wasn’t stellar IMO - I think she could have used a bit more oversight by the director/editor. The book probably wouldn’t have been so bad if it weren’t for he.
