Publisher's Summary

America might be dead, but Nick Angriff will kick your ass to resurrect her.

Lt. General Nick Angriff has spent his adult life protecting family and country from a world of terrorism spinning out of control. On the battlefield, off the grid, in clandestine special task forces and outright black ops, Angriff never wavers from duty. But when a terror attack on Lake Tahoe kills his family, he's left with only the corrosive acid of revenge...that is, until a hated superior officer reveals the deepest of all secret operations. Against the day of national collapse, a heavily armed military unit rests in cryogenic storage, to be awakened when needed, and Angriff is named its commander.

Fifty years later he wakes to find the USA destroyed and predatory warlords roaming the ruins. Stalked by assassins bent on seizing his command for their own purposes, Angriff has to prepare for war while avoiding murder. Because the only wall still shielding survivors from slavery and death are the men and women of The Last Brigade.

Better than expected!

This ended up being a pretty fun book. I will definitely get the second when it comes out (hopefully soon). It took me a few chapters to get into the book, but if you give it a chance you will be rewarded.

Anti Liberal and Muslim Fantasy Garbage

The reader is amd for the most part the writing is pretty good. The writing and story is pretty far right fantasy. This starts off as anti Obama nonsense claiming that a liberal administration is going to remove all restrictions on who we let into this country and that leads to Muslims taking over America and instituting Sharira law... which also has the bad parts of old Biblical law. If you hate Muslims and liberals than this is the book for you. It has action and intrigue. I would have definitely finished it if it wasn't so outlandish and bigotry. To the author, if you think the rest of your audience is on board and you write something that doesn't paint a group of people so cartoonishly bad (you can have anyone be a bad guy but this is as bad as the Nazis claiming the Jews were ruining their country) and I hear about it I promise you I will buy it and read it.

KMA YOYO!

The epic series starts with a bang and doesn’t let go. Excluding some particulars to quibble over, this opening volley of volume one introduces the main players and lays the groundwork for one exciting series. I am really looking forward to experiencing all four volumes. In the opening chapters, our General of the Army sports twin Desert Eagles in shoulder holsters under each armpit. Really? Now the Desert Eagle XIX is 10.75” long and weighs 4.5 lbs. There is a newer L5 .44 model at 9.7” and a hair over 3 lbs., so perhaps it would be feasible with the newer model. That’s an awful lot of pistol to be lugging around, and two of them at that, compared to a Beretta 92X Compact at 5.25” and 27 oz… Aside from this macho embellishment, the rest of the story is based on an interesting premise. The West is falling, sliding further and further into complacency and corrupted social liberalism. In the future, the fall of America will be remembered as The Collapse. Some forward-thinkers may have a plan.

Interesting premise, not enough research.

I think I'm supposed to like Nick, the main character, but I just can't. He's conceited, rash, selfish, just all-around unlikeable.
The story hasn't advanced at all by the end of this first book, aside from some totally random side plots that felt like they were written later in the story, but didn't fit there, so were slapped in much too early.
By the end, it seemed like the author was trying to write a social commentary, and tried to hide it in a military themed story. Which wouldn't be too bad if he had any idea of what being in the military was actually like.
Soldiers supposed to salute every officer they come across, even indoors, even when in the presence of a higher ranking officer.
I spent more time rolling my eyes and fuming at how terrible Nick was, even though he's supposed to be so great.

Damn good

Course as an old Army chick and love this stuff. Takes me back. Military hardware, weapons, soldiers, platoons and squads. Didn’t know if I enjoy being propelled into the future but the characters made that a moot point. Loved it. On to the next....

Interesting take on the Apocalypse

This was an interesting take on the world "ending". It was a good book all in all. It was often rigid and felt forced due to the manly man aspect of it. It did seem slightly repetitive with the same problems happening more than once. But it was an interesting read and kept me engaged while working.

Worth the read

Great premise. Just didn’t need the whole book to set the series up. Definitely good enough to get me to buy the second book. But if it’s as slow as this one it will be the last

bit on the racist side

the author took a brilliant idea and made shite
of it shame really it starts well but the internal politics was annoying. and the story drops of towards the end. might be better with a second narrator due to the number of characters

I’m hooked

I was given this book free in return for an honest review.

This has the makings of a great series. I love the characters and the story is great. The main character is now one of my favourites and I personally love the quotes before each chapter.

The narration is great and I will now be looking for more books narrated by this guy. I couldn’t stop listening and can’t wait to listen to book 2.
