Acerca de esta escucha

The stirring memoir of Harry Dunn, a Capitol Police Officer on duty January 6th, who has become one of the most prominent and essential voices regarding the truth of that day.

Walking the halls of democracy as a Capitol Police officer, Harry Dunn was a man slowly experiencing an awakening. It sparked after the election of our first Black president. It grew as his belief in the bravery and honor of law enforcement was shaken by Ferguson and countless other cases of police brutality towards the Black community. It continued to burn brighter as he watched members of Congress, many of whom he had befriended, lose their way to partisanship, as political extremism intensified. And it exploded into a blaze when he fought side by side with his fellow officers on January 6th, when democracy and their lives were threatened.

Standing My Ground provides a crucial, definitive firsthand account of what happened on that day our country was shocked to its core. But it will also share the story of a man who refused to stay quiet when he learned that some of the men and women he had risked his life protecting, who knew him by name, would deny the horrors they faced. That’s when he chose to speak up and to seek out what his hero John Lewis once termed “good trouble.” Dunn’s ongoing story as a witness willing to meaningfully engage with the media, lawmakers, and the public provides a backdrop for examining the political and racial divide in this country—one that we must overcome in order to demand accountability and preserve our precious democracy.

Thank you.

Thank you for bringing up the racial component to the insurrection. I have felt that perspective has been missing in all the commentaries I have watched. I am half white and half Japanese. I have been the preverbal flag to those in my circle as to why any person of color has polluted their supreme whiteness. These were people who called me a friend.

Well written with heart & truth. A must read!

Harry Dunn has written a truly gripping account of Jan 6th that I highly recommend. His voice, his personality and his ability to put into words the horrors of that day give the reader a unique perspective of Jan 6th, one that only an officer fighting to save our democracy that day could write. I appreciated learning about him as a person from childhood, through college, building a family and working for the Capitol Police, basically everything that made him the man who stood shoulder to shoulder with his fellow officers that day and beyond. He is not afraid to express how important therapy is when you're struggling or facing difficuIties in life. I love the way he now uses the platform he's built to fight for the rights of others, everything from fighting to save our democracy, racial equality, a woman's right to choose, LGBTQ+ rights, voting rights and more. My daughter-in-law is transgender and I really want to thank Officer Dunn for the way he fights for rights of the LGBTQ+ community! Overall this is a fantastic book and listening to him read the audiobook made it all the more incredible. Thank you Officer Dunn for all you did on Jan 6th and all you continue to do by using your voice and your platform to fight for rights for everyone. You are a true hero sir. This book is a must read!

A story of courage

I am listening to Harry's telling of Jan. 6th in his own words with gratitude. He brings to each of us the horror, sadness and anger we all felt during the insurrection as it unfolded on the world wide media. Even with my own emotions awakened by his story of being there, I cannot imagine the horror and confusion for all these brave Capitol police and Metro police who were there, experiencing it firsthand What they went through on that terrible day for our nation and our democracy is horrendous. it may not win a Pulitzer but the humanity will resonate with anyone who watched this "day of infamy" unfold, created by a narcissistic, criminal who brain washed his cult into believing his lies and attacking our Capitol. I'm listening slowly and digesting it slowly to give the respect due to Harry and his fellow officers. I am deeply saddened by the impact it has had on all their lives. Harry Dunn is an important voice to listen to in our divided county. It is not slickly edited nor as professional as some non fiction books might be, but it is deeply human. Everyone should listen to this book to really understand the impact that these terrible acts had and continue to have on our country and our freedom. Like the author, I agree that everyone who supported and took part in this coup attempt need to be made accountable for their involvement. That includes those people still in Congress who continue to tell the "Big Lie" and attack our democracy for their own power agenda. It won't be over until full accountability comes to fruition. I will be forever grateful to all these courageous men and women who stood their ground and saved our nation.
