Publisher's summary

Stalking Jack the Ripper adds an immersive musical soundtrack to your audiobook listening experience!*

Booktrack editions are essentially a new genre of digital storytelling entertainment. Music and ambient audio are added to complement and enhance the audiobook experience. It is a synchronized movie-style soundtrack that complements the narration of existing audiobooks; the tempo and rhythm of the score harmonize with action, dialogue and the characters' emotional arcs.

Instant number one New York Times best-seller

A deliciously creepy horror novel with a story line inspired by the Ripper murders and an unexpected, blood-chilling conclusion...

Seventeen-year-old Audrey Rose Wadsworth was born a lord's daughter, with a life of wealth and privilege stretched out before her. But between the social teas and silk dress fittings, she leads a forbidden secret life.

Against her stern father's wishes and society's expectations, Audrey often slips away to her uncle's laboratory to study the gruesome practice of forensic medicine. When her work on a string of savagely killed corpses drags Audrey into the investigation of a serial murderer, her search for answers brings her close to her own sheltered world.

The story's shocking twists and turns, augmented with real, sinister period photos, will make this number one New York Times best-selling debut from author Kerri Maniscalco impossible to forget.

*Booktrack is an immersive format that pairs traditional audiobook narration to complementary music. The tempo and rhythm of the score are in perfect harmony with the action and characters throughout the audiobook. Gently playing in the background, the music never overpowers or distracts from the narration, so listeners can enjoy every minute. When you purchase this Booktrack edition, you receive the exact narration as the traditional audiobook available, with the addition of music throughout.

Critic reviews

"Audrey Rose Wadsworth prefers breeches to ball gowns, autopsies to afternoon tea, and scalpels to knitting needles. Though her father, Lord Edmund, has forbidden it, Audrey covertly studies forensic medicine...while 'the Ripper' remains two steps ahead, lurking where Audrey least expects....Maniscalco's portrayal of scientific invention in a newly industrial era will serve as a fine first foray into Victorian classics." (Booklist)

"Audrey is a young woman eager to use her brains and willing to flaunt society's rules....This mystery pays homage to classics like Doyle's Sherlock Holmes and Mary Shelley's Frankenstein [and] will satisfy those readers looking for historical mystery, a witty heroine, and a little romance." (School Library Connection)

"Maniscalco has created a serious, sharp-minded, and forward-thinking protagonist in Audrey Rose, whose fearlessness will endear her to readers looking for an engaging historical thriller. [A] gruesome but engrossing story." (Publishers Weekly)

Such a delectable, enGROSSING tale that leaves your heart pounding (or stolen)!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. From the character development in our protagonist Audrey Rose, to even the development and subtle hint at out villainous Jack the Ripper. There's such a tapestry of mystery, gore, and some tantalising romance to keep your blood pumping and you wanting more!
I suspected the person who ended up as the Ripper all along, but the book made me second guess my suspicions all the long. And I LOVE the little electrifying twist in the end there, which sealed our Ripper's motive for his heinous crimes.

Stalking Jack the Ripper a phenomenal novel

I absolutely loved this novel! It was filled with twists and turns, and a phenomenally female protagonist. The ending plot twists was nothing I expected. As a reader of novels similar to this I have to say this one might be the best. With the added romance and banter of Audrey Rose and Thomas this story really came to life and was absolutely astonishing to visualize in my mind. The romance was like non other I have read in novels similar to this. It was added with great calculations and perfectly timed and execution extremely well. It was not thrown in for glee but for purpose and made the story that much more enjoyable. So a huge thank you to the author for an outrageous amazing story I will never forget.

Interesting, but...

The story was interesting. It is not a horror story, but rather a view into forensics at the time but written in an historical setting. Occasionally, the foray into details of settings and emotions got a little wordy, but overall a good story.
The thing I disliked the most was that the characters ridiculed the Christian faith 2 or 3 times. I found that hurtful and offensive.....the story would have suffered none if those few sentences were not there.

Didn’t love the music.

The soundtrack was nice at first, but it got overly dramatic at times. There was a time or two that I couldn’t hear the narrator very well. Also, the dramatic build up to a..... just another sentence, that was probably the most distracting bit. I enjoyed the way it built the drama when there was a climax.

I feel like overall the storyline was interesting. It could have been fun as well as dark, but it seemed... more depressing with a heavy sense of foreboding. However, that was probably because of the music.

I got through it pretty quick, and it was entertaining. I’d recommend if you’re interested in true crime & historical fiction.

Took a minute

Took me a minute to get a feel for the characters but once I understood, I was HOOKED! I enjoyed the mystery, the characters and the conclusion. The only reason I removed one star was the background music. This is a warning to anyone picking a book with Booktrack, I was unaware it would be like having an orchestra playing in the background at all times. This was distracting to me. Lesson learned: Just because it cost more doesn't make it better.

Such a fantastic story!

I LOVED this novel! The narration is wonderful! It took me a few chapters to get into the music, but I really loved it. It took the story to the next level, for me personally. Now I wonder why all books aren't scored like this!

This book is so well written. Kerri Maniscalco is truly a literally wunderkin and I will be furiously purchasing the rest of her catalog today. Word building: 10/10. Plot: 10/10. Narration: 10/10. This book has everything I love - historical fiction, romance, suspense, murder! I don't know what else you could want from a novel!

I'll be recommending this to everyone who will listen!

It’s not sure what it wants to be

The book starts as gruesome as the Jack the Ripper, but fades into a love story, until the last 4 chapters when it takes a sudden turn to the gruesome again. I didn’t hate it, but won’t be continuing the story.
