Excellent Gardening Advice with Practical, Flexible Ideas

This was another excellent gardening audiobook that I thoroughly enjoyed. It presents the principles of square foot gardening in a practical, easy-to-understand way and offers plenty of useful advice for both new and experienced gardeners.

One of the biggest takeaways for me was learning more about companion planting—what plants grow well together, which combinations help deter pests, and which plants should be kept apart. That information alone made the book worthwhile and gave me ideas for organizing my own raised beds.

The book is fairly strict about using a specific soil mix and recommends sterilized bagged materials or a carefully prepared homemade mix. While I may take a more flexible approach by improving my existing raised-bed soil over time, I still appreciated understanding the reasoning behind the author's recommendations. I found the book worked best as a guide rather than a rigid rulebook, and the square foot layout system is an excellent template for maximizing growing space.

The audiobook is narrated with a digital voice. Personally, that doesn't bother me, and I found the narration clear and easy to follow. The information was organized well enough that it translated nicely into audiobook format.

I do wish there had been printable companion resources, such as companion planting charts, spacing guides, and quick-reference tables. Those would have made an already excellent book even more valuable as a long-term reference.

Overall, this was a highly educational audiobook that gave me practical ideas I can apply in my own garden. I'll definitely be looking at more books by this author and would recommend this one to anyone interested in raised-bed gardening, square foot gardening, or making better use of limited growing space.
