Publisher's summary

In this third novel of the Family Spies series, set in the best-selling world of Valdemar, Heralds Mags and Amily's youngest child must follow in his parents' footsteps to protect both his family and the realm.

Thirteen-year-old Prince Kyril and Mags and Amily's 14-year-old son, Tory, "share" the Gift of Farsight - although neither of them are Chosen. They are self-trained, though currently, their shared Gift only allows them to see what is happening with their immediate family members.

After much debate, the Herald's Collegium has decided to test and train them anyway. That's when the surprises start. They do not share a single Gift; they have two complementary Gifts working together in a way that the Heralds have never seen before. Tory is the Farseer - Kee's Gift is to extend his range beyond a few dozen feet.

Their Gifts become crucial when Mags gets a desperate message from his cousin Bey, the head of the enigmatic assassin-tribe, the Sleepgivers. Bey's eldest daughter has been kidnapped, but he doesn't know why or by whom. He's calling in the debt Mags owes him to find his daughter before it's too late.

Tory is certain that if anyone can find her, he can. But that will mean traveling out of Valdemar into an unknown, dangerous country. And it will mean taking a Royal Prince with him.

What’s not to love?

Clever, Mercedes, very clever!

Another wonderful addition to an already brilliant series! You can’t write them fast enough for me!

A perfect blend...

I've been waiting for this one for a long time. I wasn't let down. It's well written, Mercedes Lackey had the perfect blend of humor and suspense. Nick Podehl continues to carry on the tradition of great story telling.

Good Story Overall

This was the last book of Mag’s and Amelie’s children and the last hour of the book in think was the best.

This story focused on Ki (third royal child) and Tori (Mag’s and Amelie’s third and youngest child rescuing the third child of Mag’s cousin Bay.

This whole series was wonderful for the most part.

These books took a little but of a rambling path instead of a straightforward one as the previous two series’.

The end of this book was so sad and so sweet at the same time.

Wow!

One of Mercedes Lackey's best yet. I may have to go back and listen to this series again immediately to recapture the emotions.

Mercedes Lackey does it again.

This is hands down the fastest I've ever finished an audio book.
This third (and hopefully not final) book about the family of Herald Mags is the best one yet. It has mystery, suspense drama, a bit of comedy (though nothing singularly as memorable as "It's just bread").
Nick Podehl's Voice acting chops really shine here. The characters are easily identifiable as separate. Tough as most men do, he struggles to voice female characters well. This was not as bad as the last book in the series that focused almost solely on a female character, and honestly, though not what I would call "great" Podehl does better than most in this regard.

By far the best of the Family Spies books

By far and away the best of the three Family Spies books. I love that this book also served to organically wrap up the series’ various loose ends without being obnoxious or feeling like a checklist.

Fantastic Overall Experience.

Loved it! Like with all Mercedes Lackey's stories, I loved it. The reader's performance was great too. Everytime I had to stop, I couldn't wait to start back at it.
