Publisher's summary

Ben Ripley enrolls in ski school, where the slopes and the stakes get really steep in this follow-up to the Edgar Award-nominated Spy School, Spy Camp, and Evil Spy School.

Twelve-year-old Ben Ripley is not exactly the best student spy school has ever seen - he keeps flunking Advanced Self Preservation. But outside of class, Ben is pretty great at staying alive. His enemies have kidnapped him, shot at him, locked him in a room with a ticking time bomb, and even tried to blow him up with missiles. And he's survived every time.

After all that unexpected success, the CIA has decided to activate Ben for real. The mission: become friends with Jessica Shang, the daughter of a suspected Chinese crime boss, and find out all of her father's secrets. Jessica wants to go to ski school in the Rocky Mountains, so a select few spy school students are going skiing, too - undercover, of course.

Ben might not be able to handle a weapon (or a pair of skis), but he can make friends easy peasy. That is until his best friend from home drops in on the trip and jeopardizes the entire mission.

Mother and son loved it!

My 10 year old son checked out this book from the school library. I had so much fun listening to my son read it, I had to purchase the audio book to hear the end of the story. Grew up in Colorado - extra fun to experience the Colorado references as well.

An exceptional listen

Recently I finished the fourth book in the Spy School series called Spy Ski School. I rate it a ten out of ten! The thrilling and intellectually packed story with plenty of cliff hangers would only be told by the one and only Stuart Gibbs. He always knows what the old or young audience like. Stress, hope and a whole lot of action.

I was pleasantly surprised when listening to this audiobook to know that it's the same type of I listening in the whole series. Gibson Frazier the narrator stays throughout the series and I
- does an amazing job of portraying the characters in a perfect demeanor for the setting of book The audio book starts off with the head of the CIA saying that Ben Ripley, the racter, needs to go see the Principal... He learns that he is going off on a secret mission up owy setting in the mountains to spy on a suspicious and possible villain called Leo Shange nge's daughter Jessica Shange wants to go to ski camp so Ben, the main character, has to get the suspicious Loe Shange's daughter under cover. Ben learns that he can bring some of his gent friends along too. He thinks this might be fun but when he gets further informed about secret and dangerous mission that it would turn out to be, he is not so sure it will be so fun.

I notice how Gibbs generally never strays from the point of view of Ben in the
Mystery/Action story. The adventure is all about Ben mastering skills and becoming a spy for the CIA and how deadly and trying that corear can be. Ben's always going through some mental of physical problem during the mission that his friends Jawa, Chip, Warren ahd Zoe plus Erica, his crush and the best agent in the school can help him with. Erica plays a big part in the story because she's always with Ben on the mission even though he's not as good with the normal spy stuff like fighting. Here's a quote from the audio book. Page 4: "I stared up at the gothic Fall building, wondering if Erica was watching me-or if she simply lenew me well enough to presume I was dawdling. Either was a likely possibility."

The setting in the audio book is extremely important. Since you're not looking at a book while listening, your mind can wonder. So the narrator has to do a good job of keeping the audience in a visionary state. Frazier the narrator does a wonderful job of that. Throughout the book I've been entranced by how I can imagine moving from room to room or even going in an avalanche Gibbs uses lots of good diction and makes sure as well as Frazier does to keep you on your toes with lots of bad guy voices and very intriguing mysterious things. Like having an evil millionaire from Shanghai come to a small town in Idaho just to have his daughter go to ski camp.

Another great principle this book brings to the table is character development. Ben and h nends and even some other agents grow a lot in the series. The past books in the series have beer rought back up many times throughout. For instance the secret organization called Spider who akes great joy in creating big problems for the White house and for the CIA. Ben in all the audio books so far has dealt with Spider. Overall Ski School was a great listen and I would totally enjoy a re-listen in the near future!
