Publisher's Summary

Moneyball reveals a quest for something as elusive as the Holy Grail, something that money apparently can't buy: the secret of success in baseball. The logical places to look would be the giant offices of Major League teams and the dugouts. But the real jackpot is a cache of numbers collected over the years by a strange brotherhood of amateur baseball enthusiasts: software engineers, statisticians, Wall Street analysts, lawyers, and physics professors.

In a narrative full of fabulous characters and brilliant excursions into the unexpected, Lewis shows us how and why the new baseball knowledge works. He also sets up a sly and hilarious morality tale: Big Money, like Goliath, is always supposed to win.... How can we not cheer for David?

"Love it and I am not a bid baseball fan"

Great true story by Michael Lewis. He can make dry stats very interesting. Even if you don't like baseball you can really like this book Its really about business.

    "As good as it gets"

The movie was almost perfection at 1.000 but this is 4.000. End. Stupid tradition requires that I fill in more unnecessary words in this review like sacrificing outs.

A well-written book examining a key trend in a game and society. Excellent performance, too--great delivery, pacing, and accents.

"The best book i've ever read!"

From the plot, to the character development, to the narrator's delivery. The story is way too relevant and convincing even in 2017 for us to ignore.

Solid story. I love the smug cockiness of the reader's voice, it pairs well with some of the humbling realities.

    "Disproven"

Search Google for "money ball". Scroll past the book and movie reviews. Read what others say about this book to see there is much more to this story. This book misses the point about why the A's were good: pitching, steroids, and players mostly ignored or derided in this book.

    "Great Narrative, OK insight"

I finally took some time to read the very famous Moneyball and while it was an enjoyable experience, it didn't quite match its reputation. I had expected far more information on the technical work done by the As and Billy Beane as well as more information on how the front office worked. There was a lot of backstory for individual players and Billy himself and though the backstory was interesting and well-written, I was hoping for something more. The performance is one of the best I have ever heard on an audiobook and it keeps you engaged in the book. Overall, I still have to say it's an excellent book and I don't think anyone would regret reading it.
