Lightning should’ve ended Marcus Shaw.
It didn’t. It made him the rarest thing on campus—a storm-caster who can fuse powers with others.

Beneath Fenwick lies Spellbound Academy, a covert program where gifted freshmen train while rival agencies close in. Marcus joins an unlikely crew—Elena the strategist, Sage the theory prodigy, Kira the half-fae shield, and Derek, the rock-steady “reality anchor.” Together they unlock collaborative casting—magic that multiplies when they connect—and it terrifies the establishment.

A ruthless handler, Victor Ashford, is recruiting in public and kidnapping in private. When he springs a campus trap, Marcus’s found family must master synchronized spells, misdirection, and consent-based links—now, or watch the academy fall.

Expect:

  • New-adult romance (18+, consent-positive, why-choose) where intimacy strengthens bonds—and power.

  • Progression & light GameLit—trials, resonance meters, real level-ups through cooperation.

  • Slice-of-life breathers—dorm coffee, study rooms, rooftop talks—between audits and ambushes.

  • Academy intrigue & conspiracies with agencies that don’t play fair.

If you love team-centric power systems, covert programs, and bonds that make spells hit harder, you’re home.
Book 2, Spellbound Sophomore, follows soon.

you don't get from a criminal review to a academic review in 7 days, you don't go from one hearing for a suspect to a presentation for ability in 7days, teachers and students interrupt a demonstration but only the student is question as to why now. lack story, lack of cause to effect. forced story flow without cause. author needs a editor to identify these type of root story missing components.

too many forced changes no cause for effect.

Good luck keeping track of what’s going on in this book. If the book chose a storyline and kept with it I would give the story 4 stars, but whole sections of the book are repeated with storyline changes and this is not noted during narration.

Terrible narration with entire paragraphs repeated 2-3 times with different storyline changes each time

Most of this poorly written article is rephrasing and broken plot and story points and line.
There are more then a few chapters where the mc dose things or gets into tr

This needs revisions.

This is the second book written by Marko Duskborn that I have not been able to finish. I tried to muscle through it but only made it through half of the chapters. This writer uses a very choppy and disjointed sentence structure. He uses a lot of analogies. He also gives personality to inanimate objects and locations for no good reason. A conference room with opinions about fluorescent lighting? Stuff like that. He's the only writer I've found that uses this style. I really don't like it. It's difficult to keep track of who is the subject of the sentences. It would be ok if he only narrated in this style. To make things worse, all of his characters communicate with the same disjointed speech. How do five people who've never met all speak in the same unusual way? Bad character development, bad story continuity, and bad writing overall. Those are the reasons I'm giving this book such a poor rating.

Choppy & disjointed style needs A LOT of work.

author couldn't keep the story line together, one minute someone is a guy the next a girl, without shape shifter. the guy gets busted but then he's right there. nearly impossible to follow along.

writing editing sucks
