Speed Perusing by John Slavio, comes in convenient, despite the fact that I do recollect while I was in review school, my instructor letting us know not to utilize our fingers while perusing.

John Slavio, clarifies diverse methods for utilizing your fingers on either hand to enable you to figure out how to speed read. I would have never felt this would be the mystery of speed perusing.

He has likewise proposed, (causes you to peruse quicker) to extend your vocabulary by perusing the word reference.

Another way he proposed to enable you to speed read, is to utilize a clear card that you can move down each line as you read.

Regardless of whether one uses the finger technique or the card strategy, they both work, as long as you don't get diverted.

Good book with a lot of tips

This book gives you a lot of tips on how to get better at speed reading. I like how it starts by telling you how to find the rate you read at. The book breaks down each reading level and explains the most common reasons to be at these levels. I enjoyed listening to this book and would recommend it to others who are interested in speed reading.

The narrator was very clear.

I had previously read this book and found that the audio version is a bit mixed up. The chapters on the audio versus that of the book do not coincide.
The main point of speed reading is to save you time, and the most important is concentration.
The benefits you get from it is that not only do you save time but you can become more successful.
The narrator explains how you can determine what kind of reader you are, by calculating your WPM(words per minute) and how you can increase it. If you read more than 700 WPM you are already a speed reader.
He also gives you tips on how to speed read, by making sure you are in an environment where it is quiet so you can concentrate and no distractions. Break the habit of vocalizing as you read.
We were always taught not to use our fingers as you read, but the narrator explains ways of doing the opposite, helping the reader to increase their WPM.
There are two other ways to speed read, one is by scanning and the other is skimming what you are reading.

Speed Reading In a Hurry

Speed Reading by John Slavio offers a practical, yet comprehensive look at taking your reading speed to the next level. As a professional copywriter, I spend the majority of my time researching any given number of topics. This requires a lot of reading. No… I don’t mean skimming. I’m talking about substantive reading, digesting the information, and being able to effectively convey the information in my content.

Because I’m limited on time with recreational books (and because I’m a natural slow reader), I chose to listen to the audio book. I was a bit concerned that the vocal instructions wouldn’t translate properly or have the same impact as a visual guide. However, those concerns were quickly put to rest within the first couple of chapters. The narrator (who was awesome btw) started with the 1 min reading speed test to gauge my current level of reading speed.

Turns out… I wasn’t as bad as I thought (compared to the average reading speed), but certainly not without room for improvement.

Whether you require this skill for work, a self improvement project, or simply looking to read more in less time, this book doesn’t waste any time in covering the wide range of benefits. It also discusses what specifically speed reading is, and what it isn’t – dispelling age old myths about it being some supernatural ability available only to Nobel Peace Prize winners – or wizards.

They discuss the importance of having a clear set of goals for what you hope to accomplish with speed reading – often in terms of WPM (words per min). It breaks down the philosophy of speed reading, along with the pitfalls of common reading tendencies (such as moving your lips or listening to your inner voice while reading) and reversing learned habits.

Once you have a good understanding of some of the things that may hinder you from becoming a speed reader, I personally found it much easier to pick up some of the basic steps in learning. They cover the most popular and effective methods, such as the single finger, multiple finger, card, and ruler techniques – and then moves onto recognizing word groups and the importance of expanding your vocabulary.

I’m a quick learner, so it didn’t surprise me that I was/ am able to take these basic steps and apply them immediately.

I was going to end my review on a sour note, taking issue with the subtitle of the book, where it suggest that you can “double your reading speed and comprehension overnight.” Nothing happens overnight… right?

However, I realized that was able to double my reading skill within the course of one day. I didn’t quadruple my reading speed, nor am I suddenly some speed reading demon, but based off of the words per min rate, I simply can’t argue with the results. And I hope you have the same (or better) experience.

Although results may vary, I’d recommend this book to anyone looking to boost their productivity or increase their reading comprehension without slowing down.

This audio book really helped me learn to read faster. I have a ton of books at home and not enough time to really read them all. With these tips I can read faster and get through all these books faster. It takes a little practice but you'll get the hang of it pretty quickly. I would definitely recommend this to college students and book worms.

Be a Speed Reader

If I just keep my nose in a book I can finish it in about a day. Well one I am interested in. This book is great for the basic tips on learning how to be a speed reader. I think if you listen to it a few times it will catch on to you more. Also the sections you find important, make sure you write them down so you will have them later. I suggest you listen to the whole book first, then go back and listen to it again and take notes. This will help you to speed up your reading.

This book had many helpful tips on how to improve my reading speed. Since I was a kid I've had a problem with comprehension and this book gave me some great tips on how to work on comprehending better.
