Publisher's summary

The novella is centered on Eddie Durante, owner of a speakeasy who's supported by his mobster uncle—the boss of the Durante family. Eddie is a young widower after his family's rival, the Caprice family, murdered his wife over a territory dispute. After devising a plan that retaliated against four of the rivaling capos, Eddie is left with the daunting task to try and move on. That is, until he's notified that the Caprices have put a hit man in the speakeasy—and Eddie's name is on the list. But things take an unexpected turn when Eddie instead starts to find the dead bodies of his relatives, the ones who had helped in the retaliation.

Behind the backdrop of jazz music and glistening flappers, murder after murder begins to unravel as revenge takes center stage, and Eddie soon learns that some secrets can’t be taken to the grave.

Nick Sarando is fantastic!

His interpretive skills as a narrator are terrific! I bought a second book because of his artistry!

If I were stuck in the house/bed, I would want Nick Sarando to come over and read books to me to pass the time!

Awesome Book, Awesome Narrator

What made the experience of listening to Speakeasy: A Novella the most enjoyable?

I love that I could distinguish the different characters. The story had a lot of twists and the fabulous narrating added to the suspense.

What other book might you compare Speakeasy: A Novella to and why?

I like Imaginarium by the same author. A.M. Dunnewin. Her style of writing makes it like a movie in my head and I think Mr. Sarando would be an awesome choice to narrate that as well.

Which scene was your favorite?

One of my favorite scenes is at the beginning when they are setting up the description of the Speakeasy. It's very descriptive and you can just see it and hear the music. There are many more but it caught my attention from the first.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, but that would give too much away

Any additional comments?

I own both hardcopy and audio. I truly love this book and hope there will be more collaborations between Nick and A. M.

An intricate story that will keep you guessing!

Where does Speakeasy: A Novella rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Right at the top. The story was great, and I thoroughly enjoyed Nick Sarando's interpretation of the writing.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes. There were many twists and turns to keep you wondering what might happen next. It becomes evident very quickly that no one is safe, so the excitement builds and builds.

What about Nick Sarando’s performance did you like?

I really appreciated the fact that you could easily distinguish between the characters. His voice added a flavor to the story that brought you right back to 1920's New York.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The final scene. I was supposed to be somewhere, and instead I sat in my car in the dark, letting the sensational words soak into me.

Any additional comments?

Speakeasy is a well-written novella that will pull you in and make you crave more. Each scene, depicted so vividly by the author, transports you into another world and brings such unexpected thrills, you won't want it to be over!
