Publisher's Summary

Do you know what the hardest thing for a Spanish learner is?

Finding PROPER reading material that they can handle...which is precisely the reason we’ve written this book!

Teachers love giving out tough, expert-level literature to their students, books that present many new problems to the reader and force them to search for words in a dictionary every five minutes - it’s not entertaining, useful, or motivating for the student at all, and many soon give up on learning at all!

In this book we have compiled 20 easy-to-read, compelling, and fun stories that will allow you to expand your vocabulary and give you the tools to improve your grasp of the wonderful Spanish tongue.

How Spanish Short Stories for Beginners works:

  • Each story will involve an important lesson of the tools in the Spanish language (verbs, adjectives, past tense, giving directions, and more), involving an interesting and entertaining story with realistic dialogues and day-to-day situations.
  • The summaries follow: a synopsis in Spanish and in English of what you just read, both to review the lesson and for you to see if you understood what the tale was about.
  • At the end of those summaries, you’ll be provided with a list of the most relevant vocabulary involved in the lesson as well as slang and sayings that you may not have understood at first glance!
  • Finally, you’ll be provided with a set of tricky questions in Spanish, providing you with the chance to prove that you learned something in the story. Don’t worry if you don’t know the answer to any - we will provide them immediately after, but no cheating!

We want you to feel comfortable while learning the tongue; after all, no language should be a barrier for you to travel around the world and expand your social circles!

So look no further! Pick up your copy of Spanish Short Stories for Beginners.

Fun way to improve Spanish reading and listening

Overall, I agree with the comments provided in the other reviews that have been submitted here. This book of stories is very well done. As a rule, I am not a big fan of audio books as I am a very visual learner and struggle with the auditory learning practice. But with learning a new language, it is very important to hear the language spoken for the correct pronunciations, accenting of syllables, the cadence of the language, and general flow of the native speaker.

For me, the best attack for this book was to read the pdf first, make sure I understood the story, then listen to the story being read aloud to get the spoken language and listening comprehension experience. When it was possible, following along while the story was being read was very helpful also. I appreciate that there was a vocabulary list at the end, but in some of the stories, I thought there was too much “new” vocabulary introduced at one time. This seems to be the same problem though in any of the similar books that I’ve read. I did appreciate how the stories had a grammatical or vocabulary focus, for example, pronouns or numbers, which helped somewhat. One thing I have not seen that I think would be very helpful is the option of a pdf of all vocabulary words in a format that could be printed and easily made into flashcards for more practice and review. Not everyone may want that, but that type of file was available it would be so very helpful for many learners.

This is the fourth book I have read that was “designed” to teach Spanish through reading stories; two were single short story books with audio provided, the other was a collection of short stories without audio. I can honestly say that these stories are of better story-telling structure and content than any of the others I have read to this point. On the other hand, this book is not for true beginners but more for advanced beginners moving into intermediate who want to deepen their understanding of vocabulary, sentence structure, and comprehension in a manner that is more fun than grammar activity books.

I highly recommend this book, and I will personally refer it to others, including my Spanish instructor. Although I was given a free review copy of this audiobook at my request, I have voluntarily left this review. This has not affected my review in any way.

Easy and fun way to learn.

When the story is told in Spanish I'm completely lost, but with repeat listening I'm sure I'll retain a little more each time. I like the fact that single words are given in Spanish and English in certain chapters to help ease my confusion when the story is in Spanish. The narrator did a good job speaking in a way that's easy to understand. This is a great way to practice when you have no one to practice with. I recommend spending the credit for anyone who seriously wants to learn. I was given this free copy at no charge to me and have voluntarily decided to leave this review.

Enjoying the learning process

When I originally decided to get this book I was excited but was then told that this book wasn't meant for absolute beginners. While I wouldn't consider myself an absolute beginner I also wouldn't say I am intermediate. I decided to dive in nonetheless expecting to be lost and confused but I was not (at least not totally). Thw book does a great job of providing both Spanish and English translations. To get the most out of this, I would recommend going between both translations a few times before moving on to the next story. I found d the voice over was very clear and pleasant to listen to. I'm learning new words each time I listen. Looking forward to the remainder of the book as well as any other material Lingo Mastery releases. This is definately worth it. Highly recommended!

A great combination.

I recently got the audiobook to listen to while reading the Kindle version and love the combination. The narration of the book is clear and at a pace that is comfortable for me. I also appreciate being able to hear and pronounce the vocabulary words included in each chapter. After reading and listening several times, I listen without following along in the book and find that both my comprehension and listening skills are improving.

Useful tool for learning Spanish. A good value.

This is a very valuable tool for learning the Spanish language. However, I’m not sure about this being appropriate for people who have not been exposed to the language before. I am not a beginner but I found it to be a challenge. . The accompanying PDF file is very useful supplement for learning new vocabulary for those new words that I was not able to pick up by hearing them. The combination of the audio and the visual PDF make this make this a worthwhile investment.

A must have book for Spanish learners!

Would you consider the audio edition of Spanish Short Stories for Beginners: 20 Captivating Short Stories to Learn Spanish & Grow Your Vocabulary the Fun Way! to be better than the print version?

The print version and the audiobook actually goes very well together. Reading and listening at the same time to a book like this is an AMAZING way to learn, trust me! With that said, you get a PDF when you get download this book from Audible so you can read and listen at the same time without getting the print version.

What other book might you compare Spanish Short Stories for Beginners: 20 Captivating Short Stories to Learn Spanish & Grow Your Vocabulary the Fun Way! to and why?

This is the only book I have read with this kind of take on Spanish learning. Very unique and a must-have in my opinion.

What about Jesse Fister and Nicolas Villanueva ’s performance did you like?

Nico has a great voice for a book like this and I loved the phase he was reading in. Made it very easy to follow without sounding unnatural.

Any additional comments?

I was provided with a free copy of this book. This has not affected my review one bit. I cant recommend this book enough. But keep in mind, this book is meant to be a FIRST SPANISH READER. That means you are supposed to know some basic Spanish before you jump into a book like this. The reading material is very much for beginners in terms of reading material, but not for people who have not been exposed to the language at all. Learn the basics, then get this book.

Language immersion made easy!

Any additional comments?

I'm a beginner in learning Spanish and I found that immersion is always the hardest since even when you may know the words and their meaning, trying to listen to native speakers (through TV or songs) can be challenging because of the speed of their talking and the little accent nuances that every person has. And even when it comes to reading materials, they are either too hard or too easy (child level) And honestly, I get bored of all the "Hello, my name is..." teaching sentences that everyone uses.

The nice thing about this book is that it gives you a full story to listen to, it's not too hard that you can't understand a thing, and not too easy where you feel like a child. It is read in clear Spanish, by a good reader that makes the story sound interesting without you getting lost.

The new vocabulary is provided to you at the end of the story. And you actually feel like you are listening to a proper audiobook and not a teaching book.

But with that said, there are two things to keep in mind:

1) You need to have a basic knowledge of Spanish, I wouldn't say it is for complete beginners who know no words in Spanish, but more for the Level 2-3 beginner to intermediate.

2) You still need to make an effort to get the best of this book, you can't just listen to it in one go and do nothing, I found myself repeating the stories over and over as I learned new words, I checked the accompanying PDF since I like to see the words too (The PDF is also very very helpful).

In conclusion, if you are serious about learning Spanish and improving it then this book is definitely for you. And I'm actually looking forward to other releases in other languages I am interested in.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. It has not affected my review in any way.

Have been looking for a book like this for a while

What made the experience of listening to Spanish Short Stories for Beginners: 20 Captivating Short Stories to Learn Spanish & Grow Your Vocabulary the Fun Way! the most enjoyable?

For context: I am a beginner Spanish learner with no formal education in the language. I have finished the Spanish tree on Duolingo and have played around with a couple more Android apps but not extensively. My current ability: I cannot speak other than the very very basic; I understand very simple texts but any harder I only understand words or phrases and have to 'put things together' to make an educated guess on the meaning of the sentences. Full disclosure: I received a free copy of the book but that has not affected my review. This is a very good book. My review: One of the main recommendations to beginners is to read children's books given how simple they tend to be. There are two big issues with this approach: 1- You don't know the language so you are probably reading the words with an ear hurting pronunciation. 2- These are children's books. As an adult I can only handle knowing what color a brown bear is so muchThis publication resolves both issues. You have a Spanish speaker reading the text for you and they even provide the actual text for your reference to follow along (in form of a free PDF). The PDF includes list of new vocab per story, some questions about the story to challenge you, and a summary of the story both in Spanish and English just in case you didn't really get the point (I tend to read the summary first to help me have proper context).

Hope this help!

WOW! Such and AMAZING reasource!!

What made the experience of listening to Spanish Short Stories for Beginners: 20 Captivating Short Stories to Learn Spanish & Grow Your Vocabulary the Fun Way! the most enjoyable?

The fact that a not only did I get an audiobook, but I also got an accompanying PDF which makes the whole learning process so much easier. Every chapter starts with a story and when the story ends, there is a vocabulary section from the story, a Q&A section about the story and a summary in both English and Spanish.
