Publisher's summary

Spacer, Smuggler, Pirate, Spy: Publisher's Pack contains Books 1 and 2 of the Spacer, Smuggler, Pirate, Spy series.

Spacer, Book 1:

Jon Bartlett's path is clear before him: finish his last year of schooling, then off on the family's ships to learn the intricacies of interstellar trade. But a message of tragedy at home comes for him, and his expected life is flung far out of reach and he's cast into a role he never wanted.

Smuggler, Book 2:

There are “nice” jobs that come my way, and there are profitable jobs that come my way. Now, these things do, on occasion, come along inside each other's orbits - but it's more of a cometary sort of thing, if you take my meaning.

Avrel Dansby is troubled.

Excellent story

A well-written, fresh story. Action and humor (sometimes dark) combine to keep the story moving along briskly, and leaving the listener wanting more.
Well done!

Great if you love a campy space opera

Charming and irreverant, sometimes silly but full of heart. come for the nautical leanings and stay for the adventure. terrific performance by reader.

Wonderful! Shades of Heinlein & Lowell

This would make a really good television series! First two seasons, right here. It is so nice to read this kind of story without the whole thing being one protracted “dance” scene after another. Anyone who enjoys this as much as I did, should read Heinlein’s Citizen of the Galaxy and Nathan Lowell’s Trader Tales of the Solar Clipper series. Simply wonderful!

British Firefly

While decidedly rated fora British audience , this story combines all the futuristic setting, marvelous mythology, and satirical sarcasm as the Firefly series. Many claim to be like Firefly and aren't. This doesn't and yet it is. Not as a copy, mind you, but as an out of the box first cousin. I loved all of the Alexis Curew series, but this was refreshingly different.

Another great series from J.A. Sutherland!

Vivid characters, memorable world-building. Time just flew by! The author creates dialogue and story which are both gritty and enchanting...

Smart and silly at the same time

Great narration. Characters are one dimensional but very fun. The protagonist is smart and yet not so much. It’s a fun read if you can suspend your need for logic and depth.

Continuity error...

In book one young Bartlett turns away from the recruiting desk in front of the Elizabeth as he fears being recognized by the crew of one of his family's former ships. He instead signs on to a different ship. And yet...
at the start of the second book he is in command of the Elizabeth? No mention is made of how he got from the one to the other.

Enjoyable

I appreciate the maritime warship aspect while in space. The writer leaves things vague enough so that it does not ruin the story. Very good take on sci-fi but using the wonder of the old pirate, clipper ship days.

The voice actor was good and brought the characters to life.

I really enjoyed it
