Worth the Trip!

I loved Nick Tecosky's narration and the universe Pat created. The universe has the feel of a cross between Red Dwarf and Firefly. Fantastic world building and fun character.

A fun trip through a weird universe

It takes a few chapters to get going but if you dig books like Space Team or Hitchhikers Guide you will probably dig this too. The narrator did a great job as well.

Fun Book

I would say this is an American Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy with a good adventure chase across the galaxy. Fun likeable characters and worth a repeat reading or listening.

classic action movie

great story and performance. it a classic action hero movie but in space. including a classic ending. it's funny, sarcastic, and action filled! check it out.

Loved the characters, the action and especially the humor! The performance was very well done!

Easy Sci-Fi

For those looking for a serious sci-fi, move on this will drive you insane. Those who is not will be ok. This story is sort of "Smoky and the Bandit" told for the point of view of Froggy (Sally Fields character), ohh yea and it's in Space. That's about it. It has enough humor to be entertaining. It has enough action to keep you in place, and its light enough where forgetting it is easy. The narrator is alright, he does the voices, he reads the story, but it's just he is not into it. But still an acceptable job.

Fun but slightly disappointing

TL;DR: great story, interesting characters, and fascinating universe, but typical sci-fi tropes and fails Bechtel test.

Longer:

Great story with amusing characters and interesting worlds. A mostly satisfying adventure tale that isn’t afraid to poke fun at sci-fi tropes or itself. However, it also has several tropes of its own.

Geeky guy gets the amazing alien woman, a blatant Macguffin used throughout the book and one that is never explained essentially toying with the reader like the main character is toyed with when he asks about it late in the story, and a dynamic character that still fails to grow out of some things that I think were just meant to be amusing but really cast his growth as merely a facade of itself. The character would blatantly do the worst possible thing thinking he’s helping and refuse to listen to the much more in the know aliens around him. Oh and this book does not pass the Bechtel test.

Overall a satisfying experience with just a few complaints.

Star Wars Meets Animal House Meets Oceans Eleven?

This story starts with your average Joe on Earth, then he gets caught up in a whirlwind of space travel and intrigue and just accepts what has happened and settles in for the ride. I enjoyed the planet hopping and meeting different species of aliens, and I got a kick out of the movie and pop culture references. Some were subtle, others hit you in the face with a cast iron skillet. Firefly reference? Subtle. The Godfather? WHAM! Right in the kisser. There were space pirates and rednecks and scholars and government agents, and while the majority of the characters were veeeery blatant tropes, it was entertaining. I disliked that female characters tended heavily toward being sexual objects and some male characters were a constant source of profanity, alcoholism, sexual propositions, and innuendo. That got old. The book was silly, irreverent, and full of twists and turns.... but what else could you expect from a book called Space Tripping?

Excellent Book!

I have heard that this book draws connections to a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I can't speak to that as I have never read that series. Now, however, I think I will have to pick up that series.

I found this book excellent. There were references to many other science fiction franchises, including Star Trek, Star Wars and Firefly. I'm sure there were others, but I didn't notice them. That Wesley Crusher reference was great!

I fully endorse that you read this book as well!
