Publisher's Summary

To protect the crew against betrayal, Captain Cross sends the Stalwart on a training mission to Ecoma, a gas giant populated by evolved humans with dangerous empathic abilities.

The journey was supposed to be easy: acquire training from the evolved humans, negotiate the use of magical devices that can protect the knights from mind control, and get a bit of R&R.

Of course, nothing is ever easy with the Stalwart, and Squire Nicholas Lyons soon finds himself battling for his life against sensual mind readers, hordes of bloodthirsty Grendels, enemy kingdom warriors, and a berserker knight named Olav.

not bad but not good

Not bad... but compared to the first one it was hard for me to finish. Most of the dialogue just seems off to me. I think the thing that bothers me the most is that the guy lusts after every girl on the ship and the way he describes those feelings annoys me.

Good but meh

I got tired of hearing all the main character flirt with the different girls. I know it’s just that but man this book has so much going for it, you don’t need to add that to keep me listening. Think of other situations and don’t be the same as all those other books.

horrible protagonist

The author: "the say character development is important, so I'll make him a boring, gulible, incredibly stupid, and annoying, whining whimp, that's the worst character in the story, and then when gets a little bit less of all those things, it'll be character development!" I hate idiot protagonist so much, he was insanely stupid with traitor thing in the first book, in this one he's a little less stupid, and more of whimp.

Great sequel

This was a great second book. I feel entranced in the story the entire book. Did not feel like they were reaching for more content. Excited to see what the next book holds.

Great story

This is another great story and Nick Podehl knocks it out of the park with the narrative. I truly hope that they continue with the series because I will definitely be there for it.

Not worth the time.

I liked the first book, but this one seriously tanked. The relationships Lyons has with the female crew are disgustingly juvenile, and almost offensively bad. I just wanted to hear about fights and equipment, the "romance" is not at all welcome. The entire arc regarding Lyons being a traitor was frustrating as well. The writing is hamfisted at best. Narration was good, at least.

First story was better

The story felt shorter, and more shallow. The increased focus on the main character's internal debate on which of the 3 women he should try and date is annoying. The Main Character seems to be a Mary Sue, which isn't unusual for a Litrpg... but paired with basic writing tropes made it pretty boring to get through.

Nick did a great job narrating.

I actually like the concept, and don't won't to discourage the author. I might buy the next book in the series, but I really hope there is more focus on RPG style elements, or a better written story. I'm not picky, I'll take either.

Gave author a second chance... still disappointed

The same things that annoyed me about the first book are just as bad with this book. Great world and concept implementation was just horrible and the constant repeating of the incredibly stupid main character just spoiled it.

love the series but..

I'd appreciate if the MC didn't have a constant hard on for every Female character, and these girls seems to want to bang him for no reason? are they deprived or something? it's just annoying to listen to the MC describe how nice the main girls tits look in whatever right clothing they happen to be wearing that day. except from all that I really like the series, it kinda like a LitRPG series at times with the weapon stats and effects/bonuses which is cool, and I'm glad it's not one of those storys that go PG with the blood and gore for no apparent reason when the action is happening, Nick Podel is an amazing Voice Actor as always, sometimes when I lose concentration when listening I snap back into it thinking I'm listening to Ricktor from the Chaos seeds series XD

I like the storyline, the characters, I understand the need for the weapon and armour stats and it's nicely done. I'm looking forward to the next book.

Awesome follow up

The narrator does very well with portraying several characters and really nails it.

The story moves fast paced like the first and although it is similar in impending doom where it should be simple and great escapes occur, it is very enjoyable to listen to. The concept of melee fighting in armour as well as space battles is a great mixture. This universe is a good adventure.

Long may it continue
