Story
He had known this day would come. No man could escape the entire might of the Sovran forever. He just found it humorous that it was an enemy of the Sovran that had caught him instead. Bound, kneeling before a queen whom he had hounded for a straight year, he should have been anxious. Or at least a little worried. Instead, a strange sense of relief filled him. It was over. His mad escape from Brindisi's justice was over. "That is a very calm expression on your face, General Darius Bresalier," she observed. Her tone was idle, but her eyes were as sharp as a hawk's.

Sevana has quite enough on her plate, what with her wonky magical core still spastically melting or exploding things on her. She has every intention of seeking professional help, if such a thing exists, but is stopped before she can even go back home. That is to say, she’s kidnapped. AGAIN.

Story
It’s like the start of a bad joke: a Master of Tomes, his apprentice, and 90 world-saving records get lost at sea. Mei Li really wishes the joke wasn’t her life. For two years she’s been stranded in a remote village with no knowledge of where her master is or what’s going on in the world. What she does know is one: She refuses to be sacrificed to the “god” the villagers think lives on the mountain; two: She fully plans on negotiating with said “god” (who, luckily for her, turns out to be a dragon more than happy to rescue her).

Story
With an un-cursed prince and king back on the throne, Sevana goes back to her usual routine without worry. But her peaceful days don't last for long. A hunter from a small northern village comes to her, pleading for help. The people in his village are disappearing during the night, transported great distances in their sleep, and they don't know why. Transportation magic such as this hasn't been seen since the days of great magic, hundreds of years past.

Story
"Good work, Balancer." I frowned at the title. "All I did was transport her here, Raile." "Yes, so you did," he agreed in a tone that clearly didn’t agree with me at all. "Perhaps you don’t consciously realize this, Garth, but its little things like this that are restoring balance to Chahir. No task can be done in just one stroke of effort; it takes many strokes, and much sustained effort." He’s right. I started reviewing all of the things I had done over the past two years, memories flicking through my head almost too fast to follow.

Story
I'm the first Mage born in 200 years. I've turned a city into an island, erected a barrier around an entire country, and awakened a war hero from a 200 year old slumber. Prophecies have marked my coming. Kings and nations have begged for my aid in times of peril. I hold the power to create and destroy nations. My name is Rhebengarthen. To my friends and family, I'm just Garth. The world knows me as the Advent Mage. And despite the rumors that you might have heard about me, this is what really happened.

Take one newly trained Fire Mage. Make him the first (sane) Fire Mage that's been born in the past two hundred years. Have him leave home and venture into the Empire of Sol. Add one powerful, curious, fire-eating dragon. Fire Mage Haikrysen never imagined that he would be adopted out of the blue by a dragon. But then, he never thought he'd find a permanent home in the northern section of Sol, working as a firefighter either.

"I was stopped by a messenger from Blackstone," Sylvie said simply and held out a folded sheet of paper that had been sealed with black wax, the crest of the main guild of the city impressed into it. "Seems urgent." Siobhan broke the seal with a quick twist of her fingers before unfolding the paper. Deepwoods had strong ties to Blackstone, the master guild of Goldschmidt, and often took on minor jobs for them. To be given a message like this wasn't unusual.

Publisher's Summary
“What does Baros say?” Amalah asked in a hushed tone. “He’s asking for my help.” Amalah’s dark brows shot straight into her hairline. “Your help? You’re wanted by the entire Sovran. How can you possibly help him?”
“He says here that he’s wrangled a full pardon for me so that I can enter, but he needs my help.” Darius stared down at the letter blindly, as everything he had heard in the past year coalesced into patterns all at once. “Amalah. I told you that because Niotan wrested free of the Sovran, avoided being conquered, that Baros would lose control slowly of the other countries.”
“Yes, so you did. Is that happening now? Is that what he wants you to stop?”
“No. Something worse than that. I should have anticipated this, but...” He swallowed the words down because in truth, he had actively not thought about war much in the past year. “The Roran barbarians were the first to break free of the Sovran after last year. And now it seems they’ve pulled together, at least most of the clans, perhaps all, and they’re threatening the northern countries. Baros has battled them to a standstill for now, but he can’t find a way to force them back into their territories. If he doesn’t do it soon, then they’ll overrun him. They’ll overrun the Sovran.”

The long awaited sequel!
Kingslayer was my very first audiobook and it got me listening!
When I heard that the sequel would be released I was beyond ecstatic! And it was worth the wait.
I love the different voices performed by Mark McClain Wilson. I always know who is talking and really appreciate the theatricality of his performance.
As with the first book I absolutely adore the characters and was excited to go with them on this journey. My only regret is that it wasn’t longer!
I laughed, I sat on the edge of my seat, I cried, o felt elated, suspenseful, and so much more.
I highly recommend both Sovran at War and it’s predecessor Kingslayer! They are a must for any fantasy collection.

Great second story!
Although I must admit that I love everything that this author works on, this series is one of my favorites.
This reader is great! His performance is spot on, and tone is just how I would expect it to be. I listen at 1.5 speed, but most books and podcasts I listen at that same speed.
If you are looking for a great read for the family, this author is right where it is at!!
