Publisher's summary

If you want to learn about the Soviet Union and Eastern Front during World War 2, then pay attention...

No nation suffered more losses during the Second World War than the Soviet Union. The figure most historians recognize as roughly accurate is 20 million. The exact figure is impossible to tally for a number of reasons: destroyed records, inexact pre-war records, Soviet politicization of the population figures before and after the war, and much more.

No matter what the exact total was, what is known is that the Soviet population only recovered its losses from the war in the late 1950s. For those of you unfamiliar with WWII, the combined losses sustained by the United States and Great Britain were just over 800,000 dead. The Soviets lost that many people during the Siege of Leningrad alone.

In Soviet Union in World War 2: A Captivating Guide to Life in the Soviet Union and Some of the Main Events on the Eastern Front Such as the Battle of Stalingrad, Battle of Kursk, and Siege of Leningrad, you will discover topics such as:

  • Before the War
  • Stalinism
  • 1938 and 1939
  • Interlude
  • Barbarossa
  • War of Extermination
  • The Major Battles
  • And much, much more!

WWII history buff.

In a global experience of superlatives as horrific as WWII, it is almost criminal that the Siege of Leningrad is not discussed more often, or at least more enthusiastically recognized for the terror that it was.

Excellent account

As the author claims, never in the long history of human affliction has there been such a cruel and deliberate siege as this; therein lies the importance of this book.

Crazy but true

Dark and fascinating details of the siege. True stories of dogs transformed into living anti-tank bombs, people eating cups of molasses-saturated soil or eating glued book bindings, cannibalism, and more - American civilians know nothing about war. A book of horrors.

Thoroughly good, but stay with it!

There are many heroes of WW2; Joe is one of them and there are countless stories to be told of other heroes. I enjoyed the insight into the Russian part of the war. That story doesn't get told very oftentimes.

This audiobook changed my view of Soviet American

This audiobook changed my view of Soviet American politics. These 900 days had, in my opinion, a profound effect on Russian and Soviet politics for decades to come.

Too simple and general overview only

The book explains in general about ww2 and no drama or story, personally did not enjoy it
