Publisher's summary

When home is no longer safe, where do you run to?

Leaving behind her newly crowned husband to oversee Pettraud, Duchess Jacqueline Arienta Xavier returns home to Saphire for the first time in months. While the War Council looms ever closer, the Duchess is eager to get back to work upon her return to the duchy. Yet, soon after her homecoming, a harrowing attack within the halls of the palace forces Jax to flee from court.

Seeking refuge behind the walls of the fortified Galensmore estate, Jax and her friends prepare to wait out the storm until the culprit behind the palace attack is apprehended. It's not until a member of the Galensmore household turns up dead that Jax realizes danger is closer than ever before.

Peril strikes the heart of Duchess Jacqueline's court in Sovereign Sieged.

Loved it. I couldn’t read it fast enough

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

One of the fastest books I read. I’m sad it took me two days to listen too but life is busy right now. I kept trying to find activities where I could listen. I will admit that I was able to figure out who was going to die.... and I was close to figuring out who killed them. It was a tie between two characters for me. But the motive I definitely didn’t figure out. Once that became clear it made perfect sense.
I’m sad I have to wait for next book to hear about the war counsel. I’m anxiously awaiting what Jax’s kingdom outcome will be.
Loved the book. Sad that Jax loses another close comrade but happy that it was an amicable departing.

What a wonderful series!

I’m so happy to kick-off 2021 continuing with Jax’s adventures.
This latest entry has everything I love about the series. First and foremost a good mystery (of course!), great world & character building and amazing narration.

It has been a while since I listened to the previous book (Burdened Bloodlines), but when I started this book I was immediately sucked back in the story.
I really enjoy the interaction between Jax and her friends. Sometimes funny and witty, sometimes serious with touching moments.
The strain/ limitations of Jax’s position on her personal life becomes more and more apparent.
Not everything that happens goes the way I would have liked it to go, but it is realistic and believable.

I think this was the first time in the entire series I figured out the mystery way ahead of Jax.
This didn’t lessen my enjoyment though, not at all.
I felt quite the detective and just sat back to thoroughly enjoy the ride.
It’s not only the mystery that makes this series so enjoyable. It’s the journey towards the solution, the writing style, the tone & feel of this series.. of our friends together.
If you’ve read the previous books, you probably know what I mean.

If you haven’t read any of the other books in this series, please start with book 1 ‘The Ducal Detective Mysteries’.
It’s a collection of 5 books (+ a short story), so you’ll get your credit’s worth. It’s an amazing start to this fantastic series you don’t want to miss.
If you don’t read the books in order, you won’t be able to follow all the politics and intrigue and you won’t appreciate the character development and interactions.

Last but most definitely not least, again a big compliment to the narrator!
I couldn’t imagine someone else doing a better job.
Everything is spot on. Relaying of humor and emotions, character distinction, pacing.
It warms my heart this amazing series has such an amazing narration.

I got this Audio Book for free (thanks!). I'm voluntarily leaving this review.

too lenient

I was impressed that the duchess was quite the sleuth ferreting out clues and suspects. I think
she showed too much compassion for the killer. The killer chose to kill over coming to her with the dilemma. Not okay with that. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a great job bringing the characters and story to life.
