Publisher's summary

Soul of a Citizen awakens within us the desire and the ability to make our voices heard and our actions count. We can lead lives worthy of our convictions.

An audiobook of inspiration and integrity, Soul of a Citizen is an antidote to the twin scourges of modern life - powerlessness and cynicism. In his evocative style, Paul Loeb tells moving stories of ordinary Americans who have found unexpected fulfillment in social involvement. Through their example and Loeb's own wise and powerful lessons, we are compelled to move from passivity to participation. The reward of our action, we learn, is nothing less than a sense of connection and purpose not found in a purely personal life.

Soul of a Citizen has become the handbook for budding social activists, veteran organizers, and anybody who wants to make a change - big or small - in the world around them. At this critical historical time, Paul Loeb's completely revised edition - and inspiring message - is more urgently important than ever.

A perfect non-partisan read to inspire you

I love this book, and I love using this book to teach. This book is especially inspiring if you, like me, have times of feeling powerless in tumultuous times. I listen to this book several times a year to keep me motivated, focused, and reminded that one person can influence many, and you dont have to be super-human to make change. Loeb is also a very generous author, providing more resources on his website.

Reviving & Inspirational

This book has been of great guidance for me as a current activist. Quoting big names such as MLK Jr., philosophers like Thoreau, and previous inspiring presidents ties all the ideas and points together.

FULL TO THE BRIM WITH THOUGHT PROVOKING IDEAS

Because this was an Audible I had the luxury of listening multiple times. Each time I listened I heard something that gained my attention. Thus I would miss other parts of a chapter as my mind journeyed on a previous idea. Love when that happens, especially knowing how easy it is to play a chapter over, while utilizing Audible. This book is so full of fruitbearing thought that missing a segment does not truly interfere with the stream of consciousness.

It did soon become apparent that I would want to eventually purchase either a Kindle copy or book format not because my Audible copy was not excellent and worthwhile, but because much of Paul Rogat Loeb's content will be nice to flip open to as well.

I would make one (1) change about the narration. Otherwise, he does an excellent job. He changes his voice to sound like a female when articulating the words originally spoken by a female. It may only affect my own personal enjoyment, slightly, and not affect anyone else's enjoyment, as it did mine. My preference is that he did not change his voice. For me it took away rather than added benefit. I would still purchase again...

Missing chapter

The image of the book says “New and Revised Edition” but Chapter 7 of the new edition is “Values, Work, and Family.” This audiobook does not have that chapter.

Missing large portions of the print text.

This narration skips large portions of the printed text, including Chapter 7 in its entirety. Not the new and revised edition as advertised.
