COOL PI/URBAN/PARANORMAL FANTASY

This is the first in the series, and by author and narrator, that I've listened to, and it was awesome! There's all kinds of crazy characters, some good and some bad. This sorta reminds me of the show Angel (Buffy spinoff), which I loved! Love the PI/paranormal combo, think it works well. Endless possibilities. Thought the book was well-written and enjoyed the narration also, think it's definitely worth the read/listen/credit!

An Enjoyable Listen

After listening to book 1, I was hoping this one would be better and it was. I enjoyed hearing the continued adventures of JB and his crew. It was a bit longer than the first book and that is a good thing. I also enjoyed that you could listen to this one without having heard or read the first book in this series. The narrator still needs a bit of work when not voicing characters, she still comes across a bit flat but better than in book one. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and have recommended this series to my friends.

Solid PI urban fantasy

Sorcerous Deeds is a solid urban fantasy, focused on a private investigator. He has supernatural powers and investigates supernatural mysteries. The story is good, focusing on a missing daughter who seems to be caught up in a 'romeo and juliet' type situation. There are some of the tropes of the PI genre here but nothing too generic. Not overly gripping, and no major twists and turns in the story, it's a good tale, well told.

A good entry into the genre.

Sorcerous Deeds is the second book in the series, but can be read without any knowledge of the first book (which is how I came to it). The abilities of the characters are explained, and enough background information is given out, without being there just for exposition, to ensure that the relationships between characters are well established. The story is also tied up in this, so it standalone. You don't have to get the books before or after... although I'm sure the author would like you to.

Narration by Elisabeth Lagelee is good. Well paced, easy to follow. she does enough character work to keep everything clean and clear.

Sorcerous Deeds

JB and his group are on a case once again. This time two faerie princes school up asking him to find their missing princess. Life for JB is hectic as he discovered that Jason is missing, Gemma is dating his friend and a werewolf is dead thanks to a sorcerer. Now all hands are on dead plus a few extra to get through the totally hectic adventures they are on.
Elisabeth Lagelee is a fantastic narrator whose voice draws you into the story and keeps you enthralled.
Fantastic audio and story.

Sophomore Effort Improves on the First

Kearney returns with the second in his new series of detective/fantasy stories. Short, once again, this time JB is hired by two Elven Princes to rescue a Princess who has been kidnapped. JB is joined in an alliance by others who have been provoked by a vindictive sorcerer, but can they rescue the Princess before she is killed, which will wreak havoc on the world?

A little more fine tuned than the first book, I enjoyed the story, but once again the narrator, Elisabeth Lagelee, nearly put me to sleep. Her voice is monotone, squeaky high for female characters and flat and huffy for the male characters. As with the first book, I had to listen to this twice because my mind kept wandering. Lagelee just can't hold your attention for long.

Fun Fantasy PI Mystery

I read the first book so I was looking forward to this one. I wasn't disappointed, it's a fun and interesting mix of genres with the PI mystery and all the fun fantasy characters... It has everything from demons, fairies, witches, sirens and more. This series has been a lot of fun. On a morality rating there is some language but otherwise was pretty clean. It is geared toward the teen to YA readers that are into fantasy and mysteries. I felt the narrator did a better job on this one then she did on the first book.

This is such a cute series

Ok I use cute loosely here because there is death, demons, werewolves and other creatures but it’s still cute. I really enjoy the worlds built here. The characters too.
Narration is excellent, Elisabeth Lagelee does a great job. I will continue this series as new books come out. It’s a good escape.

Series progressing nicely

The second instalment in this series builds on the promising introduction of the first book with the author having more time for the plot and overall character development as all the introductions for the main cast were out of the way in the first book. One slight downside is that some of the developments have tend towards the soap opera a little too much, but the more supporting members of the main cast generally got more time spent on them this time so it is building towards a solid ensemble rather than one or two headliners plus others.

The narrator came across as being more comfortable with the style and characters than in the first book, continuing to have a suitably distinctive range of tones for the cast and nicely enhancing the story.

Overall, this is another enjoyable episode in this series, that is a nice quick listen too if you are looking for a change after something longer.

Private Detectives with a few extra powers

I have not read the first in the series but it did not make any difference to my enjoyment of this book and enjoy it I did.

Its short so I listened to it all in one go and loved every character - the author, for me, made them so real that I could imagine them in my head and I was totally drawn into the story so I really felt part of it. It might be short but it has a start middle and ending that are complete in themselves

When I personally look for fiction I want a book I can lose myself in and no have to do any hard work. Everything was there from start to finish.

The narrator was perfect, I could listen to her voice all day - which is so very important in an audiobook - the wrong narrator can totally ruin a book for me.

I was given this book free and asked if I would write an honest review and this is what I have done - if I had found fault I would say so.

I plan to buy the first book in the series now and am grateful to the author for giving me this chance to listen to her work for free - she has made a fan of me, for this series anyway and I see audible have another book of hers available so I will also be buying that one as well.

I honestly and truthfully recommend this book as a relaxing escape.
