Songs in the Night is a heartfelt story of a family’s struggle to survive through the early seventies in the backwoods of Oregon. Having become discouraged with what they called “the establishment,” Cat and Sandy return to the land in much the same way their ancestors did. They build a home with no electricity or running water that can only be reached by foot during winter, but they love their little home nestled beneath towering Ponderosa pines and incense cedar. It is there, midst the beauty of creation, beneath a sky so clear they breathe in the scent of life, that they discover the truth about the unrest in their souls. Unable to blame anyone else for their continued unrest, they turn to Creator and discover the truth about Him is much different than what they had been told all their lives. Then tragedy strikes, putting their newfound faith to the test. Is simple faith enough to carry them through the loss of every material thing they own?

Each chapter is followed by a song that was written at a time in the author’s life when she was asking God for answers. The simplicity of the writing coupled with newfound faith is sure to touch even the hardest of hearts.

A beautiful witness of faith in Jesus Christ

I happen to be a person who fits nicely in the "target market" for this audiobook. But even if you aren't a "Christian" her story is very genuine and a great example of Americana.
I'm very pleased that Sandy Cathcart is brave enough to show us how authentic she is and that she is unapologetically a believer.
The added bonus of being courageous enough to sing original songs acapella at the end of each chapter is also very unique and special.
She has some divine gifts, and among them, the ability to tell stories with description that put the listener right in the middle of the drama.
I have no doubt that she loves and is loved by the Lord Jesus Christ.

Heartfelt and Inspiring

I really liked this. It's a beautiful reminder of what's important in life. The struggles and joys it discusses feel very real and relatable. Plus, I appreciate how it shows how faith can guide us through tough times. It's made me want to read the book and share it with others.

Fascinating

i really enjoyed this book i liked the story the characters the songs, its amazing where faith can take you because sometimes you need to believe in something to keep going when things aren't going well. its a really nice Christian book. i really loved the story.
