Publisher's summary

Inappropriate. Repulsive. Hilarious.

The Kansas City Police Department is under attack by a small group of hackers. These cyber criminals threaten to sell personal information about each officer to the black market, essentially putting lives at stake.

Wally Redmond is a sketch artist. He’s an alcoholic. He’s a sex fiend. And he’s given a chance to become a hero. His infatuation for a rookie leads him to situations he would otherwise avoid. But despite his personal issues, he may be the only hope for the cops who dedicate their lives to protect us. He may be the only one with a solution. He may have an idea only a drunk and horny son-of-a-bitch could come up with.

What I needed

This is exactly what I needed right now (April 2, 2020 while the world is in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic) something irreverent, funny, that doesn't take itself too serious,

The story was fairly predictable, and the premise silly but still it was fun. Narrator did well bringing the character to life and had the perfect voice for this novel.

I received a copy of this at my request in exchange for a fair review.

Wanted to like it

I really wanted to like this so I gave it my best shot, but alas. I fear I was not the intended audience. The story is about an adult male, who behaves and thinks like a 12-year old boy. Every woman is a sex object, including very puerile descriptions of their body parts. Every minute of free time is to be spent drunk. The story never really goes anywhere, we're basically following the MC from one drunk stupor to the next, interspersed with a lot of anonymous sexual encounters (the descriptions of which could have been steamy, but weren't). I have nothing against all of these things in and of themselves, but there has to be something in the story to grab my interest. This one just didn't, with an unlikeable MC, non-steamy sex scenes and a very superficial storyline.

But, as always, n=1. Perhaps you will like it.

Lacked plot and relatable characters, sadly

I really wanted to like this book and it appeared to have desirable qualities: quirky characters and more of a "journey rather than the destination" feel. However I kept forgetting (or not reminded enough in the story) about the plot and it felt very wandering and not driven towards anything. If the characters had been more relatable it might have been entertain as-is, however it was a series of pathetic drunken, sexual escapades and the protagonist talking repeatedly about his penis. I'm not a prude and have loved other books in this vein/style, but "Son of a B*itch" just didn't draw me in despite restarting the book many times.

On the upside, the narrator's voice was perfect for the protagonist and he imbued a lot of life and character into something that otherwise may have been very one dimensional, so there's that. Yay for Joe Formichella.

Tooting my own horn

I've read this book many times. Hell, I'm the one who wrote it. In fact, I even purchased my own audiobook. Why? Because it's awesome! I'd say so, even if I wasn't the author. Joe does a fantastic job narrating Wally Redmond. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, this book. I'd say the same thing, had someone else written it.
