Alec Dorn, a struggling but mildly accomplished professor of biology in 1935 New York, is tantalized when he hears tales of a cargo ship bound for England that encountered a strange anomaly while crossing the vast expanse of the Atlantic.

An expedition is quickly formed, led by Cyrus Dorn, Alec’s gregarious but overbearing older brother, however their mission goes catastrophically wrong and they find themselves marooned, along with three members of their team, on an unnamed island in a version of the Atlantic that is not quite our own. On this island sits a nameless Kingdom, ruled over by a violently eccentric tyrant who carries strange weapons and controls even stranger creatures. But external threats pale in comparison to the dangers from within their own group, as alluring opportunity beckons from unexpected places.

Out of the ashes of tragedy, enemies can become allies, rogues can become leaders, and the forgotten can become legends. But leaving one’s mark on history comes at a cost, for not all those who obtain great power are fit to wield it…

Mysteries abound!

Fantastic read! The author hooks you from the beginning and then quickly pulls you down a path full of twists and turns and false summits, in what ends up being a thrilling ride from start to finish. Highly recommend!

Best new book

This is not my normal style of book, so I was hesitant to read it when it was recommended to me. But oh my gosh, cancel your next book and read this one instead!! This was also my first audiobook, and I found myself unable to stop listening. I will for sure be coming back for more. Ryan had the perfect amount of twists and turns. He flawlessly executed cliff hangers that kept you wanting more. The variety of characters and character development was so interesting and relatable. Throughout the book I found myself questioning what I would do these situations that the characters faced. Tyler so impressively and seamlessly switched between character voices. I was blown away by his various accents and ability to truly become each and every character. I won’t give anything away, but the ending had me desperately hoping Ryan plans to make a sequel, I don’t feel done exploring the worlds he has created. And I’m not done listening to Tyler! He may have ruined every other audiobook for me, but I will keep a look out for ones that he has voiced.

Such a Captivating Audio Book

The story of “Somewhere” was amazing and had me constantly guessing, and I love how the narrator Tyler Boruff brings it to life with great voice work! I will be watching for more books from author Ryan Freerksen and more work from Boruff!
