New Beginning

An interesting M/M story. This is my first book written by Leona Windwalker and because of the short length of the audio book, I was able to finish it on one sitting from beginning to end.

as good as the ebook

The story is always 4 or 5 star, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook.

The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. It took me a little bit, to come into the narrator, but at the end, it worked. I only have to take a few breaks between. I'm just not yet finish with the book, but I listen enough to give a review.

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings:

5* - very very good
it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often re-listening
it's like an A

3* - it's more then a one-time-listening, but not more then twice a year.
it's like a B

Great Listen

This was a first for me by this author and I was not disappointed. The narrator did an amazing job of keeping a steady pace and changing voices as needed. It really heightened the book and made for a great story.
I listened and voluntarily reviewed a copy of this audiobook.

Riveting Story!

I was totally riveted by this story. There’s horror, kindness, love, and suspense all packaged up in this tale. I sat there gripped by the plot as I listened in stunned suspense and I didn’t want to stop listening…as I was totally caught up in Sol’s plight. So glad the story ultimately had a happy ending. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Emotional read

Omg! Brainwashing, cult like thoughts and actions. My heart broke for Sol and all the abuses he suffered. He was bullied, forced and manipulated into a very sad state of affairs! Sorry, but I was glad Ben got a little taste of all the love and attention Sol got from dear old mom and dad. I was glad when Ben got his wake up call and did some good for himself and Sol. Seth was a true friend and lover, and he was probably the only reason Sol survived his ordeal- both were real heros. I enjoyed the narrator.

Sol's Solstice

Sol had always tried to keep his brother safe but when he is hurt and ends up in the hospital his life turns upside down and the two are separated. Just as he starts to get his act together Sol’s parents enter the picture and his life becomes a nightmare. One chance encounter brings Seth into his life and Sol begins the hard road to recovery, but Sol’s happy ending is taken away from him when his parents find him once again. Will Seth find him before it is too late and just what will be left of Sol when he does?

This is a story about the strength of true love and what it can accomplish. A homophobic and mentally ill family brings the worst imaginable things down onto Sol. He is dealt some of the worst cards in life and suffers the consequences but there is a bright light in his life named Seth. It was nice to see the relationship between the two develop. Seth is full of understanding and love and fights hard for Sol. Their story is full of pain and angst and will have you hoping for love to win in the end.

Overall a good story

While I enjoyed the story as a whole, there were certain details that kept throwing me out of its world. I would find myself randomly tuning it out, not because of the actual storyline but by the occasional lack of pause and inflection from the narrator. Sometimes I had to backtrack just to confirm who was speaking, what was actually being said, or how I should’ve been responding to it. Some moments were raw and emotional, written in such a manner that I was able to feel Sol’s or Seth’s pain based on the words themselves but it felt lost in translation from written to audio and the feeling wasn’t quite as potent as it could be. I also felt that the narrator didn’t quite give enough differentiations between all of the characters, or forgot who was saying what, because sometimes the voices blurred together and it was hard to tell who was speaking. Overall, a good story, even if it seemed like anything bad that could happen, did, and Sol got the short end of the deal. Still, a good story.
I received a code from the author although no review was required.

OMG poor Sol

Sol was an 18 yr old who is kidnapped by his parents and locked in his room which was decorated as when he was a child. He manages to escape and good Samaritan Seth saves him and they form a relationship and a friendship with Martha, until his parents find him and have both Martha and Sol. They release Martha but beat Sol to an inch of death. He is finally found and back in Seth's loving arms. His parents should be shot. Narrating was good

Such an eye opener

This book was an eye opener, I’d like to think that this behaviour doesn’t exist in the day and age, however it sadly does. Written well.

Has great bones.

I enjoyed the premise of the story. It sounded great and like it could be deep, profound and healing but unfortunately fall a little short at places. I really liked the characters and I felt so much for Sol. He had such a hard life. He was broken and beaten but kept getting back up. I loved Seth's caring and protective nature. I was enraged by Sol's parents and 'church'. The foundation of this story was great and the narration was really well done but I wanted more. More depth, more healing and more progress with the relationships, more time for the story to develop. I look forward to seeing where the story goes with Ben's story and if we will see more of Sol's recovery as Ben's story progresses. I hope to see a satisfying conclusion to both bothers lives and story.

Thanks for reading!

Heartbreaking...

Sol and his twin brothers went into the system due to their parents negligence. Now they are paying the price of having crazy parents but sol took the worst part. He found solace in Seth, a kind hearted stranger who takes him in. Religion fanaticism should really be under mental illnesses. Sol had to suffer his parents and church leaders criminal antics to take the gay out of him. Good thing he had someone who loved him and save Sol from madness. A roller coaster is this one. I cried while listening and wanted to punch some characters. Good listen.

*received in exchange for an honest review*

I really enjoyed the story of Sol and Seth. It was greatly written by Leona Windwalker and I have added the following book to my TBR pile. I did, however, find myself reading the book on my kindle because I found myself not listening to Standley’s narration and I kept missing bits. It was really monotonous. And as much as I tried to prevent it from taking away from what was a great, drama filled story, it really did.
