A sly and humane satire both original and thoughtful

A Russian first novel that reminds you of what was wonderful in Russian literature. As I write the war in the Ukraine wages on. It’s reassuring to hear from the other Russia. Complicated,charming and elusive and unpretentious.The narration is straightforward but doesn’t highlight the humor which you have to listen for and find yourself.

Excellent - brilliant and funny

Highly recommend for fans of Vodolazkin’s other books. I really loved this and laughed often

Excellent narration

I loved everything about this novel, and the narrator made it a pleasure to listen to. I did not expect a story about a general and war to contain so much humor at times it was laugh out loud funny.
