Love Jake and Adrien!

Am I disappointed that Chris Patton was unable to do this audiobook? Absolutely! However I think that Kale Williams did a fine job representing Adrien and the other characters. My main disappointment was his Jake. It was not distinctive or gruff enough. This book is an utter delight for Jake and Adrien fans though and the audiobook did not take anything away from my enjoyment of the story!

Loved the book; missed Chris Patton

If you could sum up So This Is Christmas in three words, what would they be?

Great continuation of the last book. I just miss hearing Chris Patton's voice. It was like having a different narrator for the Deathly Hallows after the first six being read by Jim Dale. It just wouldn't have worked, and I'm struggling to make it work here. I think sometimes I just ignored the narrator's voice and just imposed my memory of Chris Patton. Still one of the best series.

What was one of the most memorable moments of So This Is Christmas?

Jake's family's New Year's Eve party

What aspect of Kale Williams’s performance would you have changed?

Sometimes he just sounded too affected, overacting. He read parts of Adrien's dialog in too singsong a voice, which doesn't really go with how he was portrayed in the other five books. It's hard to describe. Just listen to how Chris Patton does it and that will explain it. And how he did Natalie's and Lisa, Adrien's mom's voice was painful at best.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Not extreme, just very happy to see the continuation of one of my favorite audiobook series. Hope there's more to come.

Any additional comments?

Chris Patton is the guy for this series or at least someone who has a better understanding of the inflections. Like when he said the "Ah-huh", he got the intonation so wrong.. I don't suppose you would consider redoing this audiobook with Chris'voice, Josh, Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee????!!! have to ask.:-/

Perfection!

Yes! Brilliant as always Josh Lanyon. A perfect novella to top off the series. The chracters were in tune, the narration was wonderful. I can't say more. It's a short book packed with lots of things happening...so much! Just read it! 3 hours well spent!

I've Already Listened To This Twice

Realizing that Kale Williams narrated this book made me one extremely happy person! I loved the other guy but Kale is definetly my favorite and does a phenomenal job, just as he did with the Art of Murder series!

This story wraps up things nicely and I finally get to see both Jake and Adrien 'out' and happy as can be together! It's so sweet and their love is a balm for my soul.

I love that Jake's family are finally accepting of his sexuality (well, most of them anyway) and I'm glad I finally got to meet them. They seem pretty cool to me (thank god, poor Jake missed his family).

The ending had me squealing like a little girl because of all the warm fluffies it gave me. I'll be absoloutely estatic if there's to be a book 7 but this one is lovely in itself.

Another hit for the holidays.

Another masterful work by Josh. If I had a concern it is minor. The new narrator is very good with a couple caveats. Lisa’s English accent is a bit forced and the difference between Adrien and Jake needs to be more pronounced but overall excellent narration. Looking forward to the follow up events (no spoiler here). Thanks Josh and my cat Jake thanks you too.

Complete waste of time

Not only does the narrator do a horrific job of narrating the book, but his take on other characters is completely different than the previous narrator. Was so looking forward to another chapter in the Adrien English series. This, was not it.

Narrator ruined it for me

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No. Probably not their cup of tea.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I enjoyed the story.

What didn’t you like about Kale Williams’s performance?

I had to give up listening to the book (since I already read the book, and enjoyed that very much) because I couldn't tell who was speaking. There was no difference between Adrien and Jake (however, I know the characters so well I could surmise who was speaking but it ruined the listening experience to the point I saw no point continuing). Well, at least when I read the book I can "hear" Chris Patton speaking.

Did So This Is Christmas inspire you to do anything?

Not listen to any more Kale Williams recordings. He's a "reader."

FANTASTIC ENDING THOUGH I WISH THERE WILL BE MORE!

Best series by Josh Lanyon. A brilliant mystery writer. Good storyline and the plot is fantastic. I like the two main characters, Adrien and Jake. Their romance is so beautiful. Jake is sooo caring and Adrien is a very interesting character. I hope Josh Lanyon will continue some more books for this series. That will definitely be appreciated. Kale Williams performed well for this book.

Adrien & Jake move forward AND its Xmas!!

Overall Series 5th Re-Read 2019:
Adrien with an "e", what can I say that I haven't already said? Nothing really because I absolutely adore Adrien and Jake. Yes, there are multiple times I want to whack Jake upside the head but he's learning, albeit slowly sometimes but still learning. There's heartbreak, there's joy, there's murder, and well there's plenty of love(even if it takes Jake a little longer to accept).

All but the final Christmas novella is narrated by Chris Patton and his voice is perfect for these two. I couldn't imagine listening to anyone else bring life to the pair but then when I listened to So This is Christmas, read by Kale Williams, he too is . . . well for the lack of a better word(and not to sound redundant😉) . . . brilliant. Obviously there is a difference between the two narrators but since Adrien and Jake are settled, or as settled as they can be considering Adrien's knack for stumbling into mayhem, which changes people and so the difference in narrators kind of reflects that I thought. So I say spot on to all involved bringing Adrien English and Jake Riordan to life.

Irritating narration

Narrator has the most iritating voice. Epecially when speaking the female lines. Couldn't listen any longer.
