Growing up in war-torn Vietnam was normal, even idyllic at times, for Snow, the youngest of seven children in her family. Although her heart belongs to an American GI, she honors her father by marrying a Vietnamese man. Her halcyon life unravels as the Vietnam War ravages her country and the threat of communism culminates with the fall of Saigon. Life in unified Vietnam under the new regime becomes unbearable. Betrayed by her husband and left with a dying child to raise, Snow must set aside her morals and push herself to the limit emotionally, physically, and mentally, to buy her way out of the country. Her decision to escape and find sanctuary in America takes her adrift in the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand with her daughter, nephew, and other boat refugees. For days, they are at the mercy of pirates, storms, and dire conditions. Ultimately, Snow settles into a refugee camp on the island of Galang in Indonesia, but life there is deplorable. The threat of repatriation and the will to keep her family alive keeps her motivated to hustle for a ticket to freedom.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"The book is beautifully written, the story told with equal amounts of heart and skill and this reader could hardly tear away from the story for real-life each day." —Kim Hornsby, USA Today Bestselling Author and Amazon #1 Bestselling Author

“Wow, Snow in Vietnam is better than Miss Saigon! A story told from someone who lived through love, loss, and the pursuit of freedom during the Vietnam War. A triumphant story of the Vietnamese boat people!” — Loc Bui, Business Development Officer, Media Vines Corp

I did not really understand the terror of communism until I listened to this book. I feel every citizen in the USA should read this story to understand what it means to have the government take your possessions, encourage neighbors to spy on neighbors, and show how family members can be taken away from their families and put in re-education camps. This book also shows how deep a mother's love is for her child. Snow in Vietnam is a powerful story. It's one of those books that stays with you long after you have finished it. The narrator in this story is perfection. Her voice carried so much passion, joy, heartbreak, and fear at all the right times. Thank you, Amy M Le, for sharing your family's story. If you are considering this book, please get it. You will be forever changed and gain a much deeper understanding of what it is like to be a refugee.

Every Person in America Should Read this Book

Let me explain, I read everything very quickly. I have since I can remember learning to read. That being said, I usually cannot keep my attention on someone else reading to me.
I get annoyed bc the dialect doesn’t match what is in my head or just some other silly reason.
This book had my attention and my heart from the beginning. The drama and angst of a mother knowing her child has a heart condition and not being able to fix it, let alone being in Vietnam during the fall of Saigon, staying and attempting to live under a communist rule - I can’t imagine.
It gets worse. And then again even scarier and worse, but love prevails and the determination and strength of Snow and her loved ones shines through. I am rushing to buy Snow in Seattle now!!!

The first audible book I wanted to continue listening to the end!!
