Fairly gripping tale but....
Any additional comments?
Jonathan Keeble is an excellent narrator and I would definitely look for him again. He managed to give distinctive voices to many different characters.
Speaking of characters, there are some good ones in this book and overall, I enjoyed it. There are enough twists and turns to the plot to keep one guessing for a little while at least.
What let it down for me was the "bad guy," who is over the top. Without giving away any of the plot, I am more intrigued by fairly average people who perpetrate crimes and the exploration thereof rather than truly evil beings.
As a head's up for those who, like me, have a low threshold of tolerance for cruelty, the story explores the world of male prostitutes and there is brutality and violence involved.

Too many anachronisms
While this is set in 1936, there are too many references that didn't appear until after 1950, and much later. Careless.

OMG! Can it get any better?
Wow! Snow Hill has it all. Corrupt police, rent boys, murder, nosy newspaper reporters and a lot of action to keep you listening. I started listening to the book thinking that it would be for just for a short while; 3:25am I stopped listening. From start to finish I just had to find out what was going to happen next. Good thing I can catch forty winks next day. I will say that I was surprised at how much language there was, which didn't detract from the story at all, in fact, if it hadn't been in, the dialogue would have been rather tame.
I have a list of my favourite narrators and Jonathan Keeble is right there on top of my list. His characterizations are just the best. He makes the listener feel as if they are walking alongside each character...and boy, there are some characters in this book. It get's my seal of approval and can't wait to listen to The Whispering Gallery.
