freaking Awesome

this book was fantastic! Harmony and Jessie, with more from Kevin and April this time (thankfully! there could always be more of those two!), straight Bring it. the end leaves you hanging but it sets it up for the next one. and i can’t wait!

Fantasy 007 meets Legion of Doom

Kevin: “Did … you two just make out?”
Harmony: “When we make out, you’ll be the last to know about it.”
Kevin: “I like how you said when instead of if.”
The best thing about this story was having Team Harmony involved the whole way through, giving us an ensemble cast to banter and battle. While there were call backs to past villains, this one works well as a standalone. I loved the pulpier, comic book vibe.

How does he keep getting these reviews?

Got to chapter 9… skipped to the end. Didn’t miss a thing.

Once again… for the umpteenth time, Harmony and Jesse meet their match when they go into yet ANOTHER situation completely UNPREPARED
They are outsmarted, out performed and out “gadgeted” at every single turn… yet they survive and make it to the end? Nope. There will be another.

At least with, Supernatural, we had cute guys to look at. AND they were men. So we kind of expected them to “blast” their way through everything.
Also why Daniel Faust is the way better branch of this whole series.

Craig, stick to writing men leads. Your ideas of strong female characters are to make them act like men. Constantly going into situations half cocked thinking they’re strong enough to make up for not planning things out.

At least the harmony series finally got a good narrator.

Maybe by the time he ends this road… he’ll somehow find female testers to tell him the truth.

Needs more magic and WAY less tech

...I'm a huge fan of the characters and will stick this out through the bitter end, but GAH I don't love the pivot this series has taken away from the occult to silicone valley, tech bros, gadgets, hacking, bio-warfare, etc. I want the books to be a REFUGE from late stage capitalism, not ABOUT late stage capitalism!

A finely crafted soup poured into fresh bread

Also known as a soup sandwich. In a way, the term goes further than well-laid plans poorly executed.

Centuries ago, meals (often thick stews) would be served inside a round loaf of tough brown bread called a trencher. The diner had the bread pulled from the hollowed out trencher to eat with butter, cheese, or just for dipping. And if the meal was swanky with more than one course, the trencher was up to the challenge.

If you thought you might get peckish in the middle of the night, you took the trencher home to make a good late-night snack. (Pretty cool way to get around washing dishes.) And, if a diner came across a beggar, it was customary to give the beggar the trencher. With butters and creams soaked into the bread, as well as maybe some meats and veggies in it, it would be gobbled right up.

My point is the trencher served many purposes, and did them all extremely well. A cook could rely on the trencher to make his best dishes that much better. In case it needs to be spelled out, Craig Schaefer is the cook, his dishes are his books, and the trencher is Christina Traister and her manifold skills as a voice actress.

Now consider what would happen if you swapped out the trencher for a couple slices of Wonderbread. What you have is a soup sandwich. Susannah Jones is that Wonderbread.

i listened to the books because they were free. Now I am deleting free books. I've never done that before.
