Story
We all follow our own path in life. At least, that's what we're told. In reality, many of us either do what is expected of us, or follow the invisible but well-worn paths that lead to what is culturally acceptable. For some, those paths are fine - even great. But they leave some of us feeling disconnected from ourselves and what we really want. When that discomfort finally outweighs the fear of trying something new, we're ready to opt out.

Story
In her late 20s, Cait Flanders found herself stuck in the consumerism cycle that grips so many of us: earn more, buy more, want more, rinse, repeat. Even after she worked her way out of nearly $30,000 of consumer debt, her old habits took hold again. When she realized that nothing she was doing or buying was making her happy - only keeping her from meeting her goals - she decided to set herself a challenge: she would not shop for an entire year. The Year of Less documents Cait's life for 12 months during which she bought only consumables.

Story
Most of us know we own too much stuff. We feel the weight and burden of our clutter, and we tire of cleaning and managing and organizing. While excess consumption leads to bigger houses, faster cars, fancier technology, and cluttered homes, it never brings happiness. Rather, it results in a desire for more. It redirects our greatest passions to things that can never fulfill, and it distracts us from the very lives we wish we were living. But it doesn't have to be this way.

We are often on a quest for more, giving in to pressure every day to work more, own more, and do more. For Courtney Carver, this constant striving had to come to a stop when she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Stress was like gasoline on the fire of her symptoms, and it became clear that she needed to root out the physical and psychological clutter that were the source of her debt and discontent. In this book, Carver shows us how to pursue practical minimalism so we can create more with less - more space, more time, and even more love.

Fumio Sasaki changed his life when he became a minimalist. But before minimalism could really stick, he had to make it a habit. All of us live our lives based on the habits we’ve formed, from when we get up in the morning to what we eat and drink to how likely we are to actually make it to the gym. In Hello, Habits, Sasaki explains how we can acquire the new habits that we want - and get rid of the ones that don’t do us any good.

It doesn't get any easier than that. Lightly is like a recipe book for minimalism, designed so you can dip into it anytime for advice and inspiration.

Publisher's Summary
From the creator of the award-winning Slow Home podcast comes Slow - the perfect companion on the long road to living a simpler and more fulfilled life.
'Dear Mr & Mrs Jones, I am writing to inform you of my withdrawal from the race to keep up with you....'
Once upon a time, Brooke McAlary thought she was close to having it all. Married to a wonderful man, mother to a lively young daughter and pregnant for a second time, she'd acquired all the things she'd once thought important - holidays, cars, a renovated home. Yet despite this, she found herself utterly despondent. Realising that they wanted a simpler, more fulfilling existence, Brooke and her family gradually created their own way of living, with an emphasis on depth, connection and experiences.
In Slow, Brooke gently encourages you to find pleasure and value in a simpler life, sharing the practical tips and rituals that have helped her on her own journey, from decluttering to de-owning, messiness to mindfulness, from asking why to asking where to now? Part memoir, part practical companion, Slow provides a fascinating insight into the benefits of slowing down. It will inspire you to forget about the Joneses and create a life filled with the things that really matter to you...slowly, of course.

Life changing - please read this book!
So many eye-opening suggestions and “a-ha” moments. Less a “how to” book as one with reflections, ideas and wisdom. I have listened to it twice now, and gotten more from it in each listen.
The author reads the book herself, and her voice is beautiful and calm, just like in her podcast (Slow Home).
I can’t recommend this book highly enough!

Excellent introduction to slow living
This book is a great introduction to slow living. Enough practical advice to pick and choose what suits you without creating a new standard to follow.
A good amount of personal anecdotes to allow the book to flow.
The length of the book is perfect too. Don't be put off by the relatively short time-definitely worth it and perfectly concise

A Brilliant, Gentle and Real Intro to Slow Living
Where does Slow rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Thought provoking and minus the fluff. Sometimes I tune out with audiobooks that are too dense, or I simply don't finish listening to them. This one, I finished in 2 days because it was highly engaging.
What did you like best about this story?
Real life examples from Brooke's own life, plus suggestions for getting started (the emphasis on there being no one-way to live a slower life).
What does Brooke McAlary bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Her voice!
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Vulnerability shared in some of the author's life lessons.

Simple, accessible and helpful
Excellent book. I hardly ever review books but I feel this one deserves it. All of the concepts were already familiar to me but the difference with this book is they are put together in the most relatable way I've seen, and written by a normal person who speaks in every day terms. I also really enjoyed listening to Brooke's voice - it wasn't over-narrated, just kept simple and calm, perfectly reflecting the energy of the content of the book. I loved it.
