Publisher's summary

Slightly Scary Short Stories with humorous, creepy, historical, and thought-provoking tales. An entertaining Halloween book. Featuring new urban legends like "The Coquina Madman", the creepy "Sleepless", and the amusing "What’s in the Attic?".

In addition to being scary, these short stories examine themes such as conquering fear, controlling anger, dealing with a loss, love, and respecting and protecting animals.

Also included are a few childlike whimsical things we might encounter as we navigate life, when we find the need to occasionally come up for a breath of fresh air. You will find a little magic, humor, and a tingling medley of the unknown...all from the attic of the mind of Floyd Jay Winters. Please listen, reflect, and enjoy.

Southern noir meets vintage Hollywood radio drama

“Slightly Scary Short Stories” an anthology by author Floyd Jay Winters, contains enough variety and offbeat characters to keep a listener engaged for a few hours. KC Dalbey performs a wide range of Winters' protagonists with emotion and style — men and women, granny, grandpa, even children and aliens.

These 28 stories range from less than a minute (“HiSSSS,” about a pet snake), to 30 minutes (“What’s in the Attic?,” recounting a stop on the Underground Railroad). Winters' talent for history is evident in “The Coquina Madman” and “The Grains of Sand” stories. The discovery of Florida comes alive in the “Sands” quartet.

Best of all: “Sweetie.” This little gem evokes the golden age of Hollywood radio drama. Beautifully written and performed.

Unsettling

I had to stop reading this because there is one story in here about torturing a dog. I couldn’t stand it. The guy put the dog in the freezer, in the microwave, stuff like that.
