Was good overall; some annoying bits

lt captured my interest right off. Later parts started to drag and get annoying.
I just got so tired of listening to the MI-6 people bitching at each other. There was so much “SHOUTING” the narrator must have given himself a sore throat.

The MI 6 woman got really aggravating—she seems to be “furious and fuming” a very large percentage of the time and everything she was involved in became fingernails on a chalkboard. Her boss seems to be a pigheaded and complete and utter moron whose SOP was total denial of anything that was bad. They had the same argument during 90% of their interactions.
always “you have no evidence” “BUT! But...But I...”. “NO!”
It’s like he believes his job to think and believe the exact opposite of everything she says, deny every request, and then they argue about it over and over and over for HOURS over the course of the book.
I don’t know why the author thought it necessary to beat that to death. We get it!

I found myself fast forwarding through conversations so I didn’t have to listen to all of that but also because it would become clear how the conversations between any of the characters were going and that there would be x amount of whatever filler.
Like the armed stand off “put the knife down/I can help you <skip> you need to trust me <skip skip> let me arrest you and then I’ll help you/<skip> don’t do this/I know you don’t want to. <skip> don’t do something you will regret”.
Or the interrogations “Tell me/ let me help you/<skip> I don’t believe you want that blood on your hands/ <skip skip > I’m the only one on your side// if you help us we’ll help you <skip skip>. your mother and sister would want you to help us”. Blah blah blah
In that way parts of it seemed unbalanced. Way too much of certain things.

But the story was good, I made myself keep going through the annoying bits

Great listen

As always I love this narrator. I love his varying accents which always seem to impress each time there’s a new country involved! I love the way he brings the characters to life. And the book was great… It was really interesting and nice to have some thing a little different from the standard good guy bad guy good guy wins type scenario. Again the characters were very personal and the writer draws you into their personal journey. Very interesting take on some of the political/terrorism scenarios that are written about often. I would definitely listen to the author and the narrator again.

Grooming of another kind

An intriguing & interesting story of grooming. The terrorist kind. The terrible toll on the child. The hatred. The revenge. The desolation. The sadness, & the extreme efforts of the west to thwart terrorism. The narrator, David Thorpe is brilliant. An amazing voice to listen to.
